Taking Attendance, showing up for myself fully now, going back to the site where I first shut up and allowed the seeds of broken energy to begin turning into what 20th century medicine would later name as Angylosin Spondylitis, a form of arthritis that can show up in teens.

I am listening in the background
to a teacher calling names.
"Is Lettie here?"
It must be sixth period.
I am on a fancy new IBM in
the Fairfax High School Library.
The slow speed AOL at niece Eva's
last night was driving me crazy.
I visited my father this morning
and did some incredible healing.
Now I am across the street
in the Fairfax High School Library.
I have a copy of our Class of '65
yearbook in front of me.
I am picking up pieces,
in the life of a 15-17 year old
who was here 40 years ago
and left parts of myself behind.
I am in the location just about where
a frog pond once existed when I
moved into this neighborhood.
(That's another story!)
I am feeling the energy of the place
where I first became crippled,
where I went to my first doctor who said
we do not know what is wrong with you,
but your bones say you are aging faster
than a teen.
Such is the result of too fast bone growth
in the life of a kid who felt like a nerd
underneath, who felt very isolated, in spite
of great moments with teacher mentors
that also saved my life.
1962-65, such was the life of a teenager
still suffering from the childhood trauma
of a mother who died but three years before,
and a father raging and saying if I did not
stop yelling at his new wife, my stepmother,
she would continue to run away.
I was ruining his marriage, he said.
I was yelling out about the
pains and injustices I felt as a teen.
I shut up. My bones felt it.
It is 2:50 PM.
I am opening up our Class of '65 yearbook.
I am hungry. I wish I had eaten more today.
Andrea Tabor and I cooked up the idea of
creating a Class of '65 web site.
I am going to work on that project before long.
Let's see this book and feel the memories.
Here is a photo of the Cross Country team.
I am here as manager...
The Library is going to close in 20 minutes...
So I will reflect on the photos later.
There is a lot of stress on campus today.
When I was here it was near 98% Jewish.
Now it is 50% hispanic. The black students
and the hispanics had a near rumble today,
the librarian tells me.
I am brimming with energy.
I had a incredible healing with my father today...
