Moses and the origins of the Essenes,

Edmond Bordeaux Szekely writes:
At the beginning of the Exodus, Freedom did appear to those people as worse
than slavery, even as Moses anticipated. They were so used to being told
what to do, and when and how to do it, that they felt lost when they had
to make their own decisions. but Moses continued to exhort and encourage them.
Gradually he began to train a small group in the knowledge of the Law.
Under the starlit skies of the desert he taught them until little by little they became
accustomed to their freedom.
As the years passed, the small group gradually assimilated the teaching
and, as a new generation grew up, his deep, all-sided philosophy became the foundation
of their daily lives.
This philosophy later became the philosophy of life of that other minornity
group know through the ages as the Essenes.
Moses' teachings survived the Exodus, the life in the desert and even
the organized states of the land of Canaan.
IT became a dynamic factor in the history of mankind,
and even more particularly, in the history of western civiilzation.
