basic face care process guideline

1. determine skin type:
press a single ply tissue
gently to your face then remove.
if see greasy residue then you have oily skin type.
test different areas of your face, since it will vary from
spot to spot.

2.cleansing:
ph of soap can strip skin and leave it dry
and tight.
deep cleansing can only occur when face is steamed
or warmed. and pores are opened..
1-2 times a week is plenty, and do not deep clean on
a day before a scheduled outting etc..as sometimes..
drawing impurites out can lead to small blemishes
it will take about a day for your skin to resettle.

to deep clean or daily cleanse also..
pull hair back away from face, wash hands in warm water.
moisten face with warm water using hands, sponge,or clothe.
(if use a sponge always be sure to rinse it well)

lather face with appr. skin type cleanser
& gently massage facial muscles.
rinse face thoroughly.

if you wish to deep clean , now is the time to steam clean.
fill a bowl with hot water
towel over head & bowl
to keep steam on face and not escape.
hold face near water.
only need to do this a few minutes is fine.

after cleaning or steaming.. move on to toning.

Toning removes any remaining traces of cleansers.
tightens the skin to prepare it for moisturising.
tightens the pores of skin.

water is the most natural toner
should be any range from lukewarm to cold.
never use hot water on face directly
it can damage cells of facial skin.

after toning comes moisturising.
it is important to moisturise skin
even if you have oily skin.
otherwise the body will produce more sebum..
which clogs pores, & may lead to blemishes.

never use a heavy salve on face.
if applying a moisturiser, do not do it after
a hot bath etc..( you can do this to other
body skin, but not to face)

wait til pores on face have time to close..
splash with cool water and wait a few minutes..

then moisturise according to your skin type.

exfoliating uses mildly abrasive agents to
remove dead skin cells. the skin renews completely
once a month..so exfoliation is good to do
at least once a month to help remove dead cells.
it cleanses skin, removes grime & dirt,
without stripping it of natural sebum
you should never exfoliate more than once a week.

below are some natural recipes
for each skin type

normal or oily skin/ cleansers

..................................................................

cucumber skin left over from salad, etc
wipe on face all over gently with the inside.
..................................................................

remove eye makeup with sweet almond oil
..................................................................

rosewater/plain no adds needed
..................................................................

oatmeal/ dampen and use as a sponge
excellent dirt and blackhead remover.
..................................................................

esp for over-oily or blackhead prone skin:

25g alcohol.
5g rosewater/plain
5g lemon oil
2 drops bergamot oil

shake all ingredients together in jar
wash daily with this.

(basic breakdown is :

1 part each,
rosewater and lemon oil..
to 5 parts alcohol)
plus the bergamot

..................................................................

2 tbsp (30ml)baking soda
2 tbsp ground rice
1 tsp finely grated organic lemon peel
(you can use dried lemon peel if want)
you can add soap crystals if want. ( 1 tsp )
but no need
just won't lather, without soap crystals,
but it still cleans.

apply in small bits on a warm damp face.
rinse well and follow with cool splash.
pat dry with soft towel.
..................................................................

if use face makeup use appropriate cold cream
for skin type.

almond oil cream :

40 g sweet almond oil
10 g white wax (not parafin)
or beeswax or calendula wax.
40 g rosewater/plain

gently warm and melt the wax and oil together
... slowly add rosewater
beating it well, as you remove from heat.
a nice addition would be
a drop maybe of disinfectant essential oil.
(teatree, rosemary, sage or thyme, self heal, etc )
only a drop , unless making more than a weeks supply.

basically stick to 1 part wax
to 4 parts oil, plus
4 parts rosewater
..................................................................

if have extremely oily skin:

1 coffeespoon natural pectin powder.
30 g alcohol (vodka)
15 g glycerin (anhydous) or glycerine (vegetable)
45 g rosewater/plain

moisten pectin with a dab of alcohol
then gradually add to gylcerine & rest of alcohol.
add the rosewater.
heat mixture slowly til it boils.
let boil 3-4 minutes.then pour into clean jar
it will form a jelly.

use jelly as you would a soap.
..................................................................

i like to use
http://www.mountainrose.com
or
http://www.wildroots.com

for herbs, essential oils, cosmetic needs, and bottles etc/supplies.. kaolin btw is a great mild facial clay.

rosemary essential oil is a great all around beauty aid
or rosemary tea as a facial rinse.
remember !! essential oils are stong !!
do not add more than a recipe calls for !!

normal to oily facial toners

witch hazel and rosewater:

2 parts rosewater to 1 part witch hazel
if have oilier skin, increase witch hazel
normal to dry, increase rosewater.

ps /add 2 parts elderflower water for soothing
this is a centuries old toner btw.
apply with cotton balls.

witchhazel draws out impurities
elderflower soothes
rosewater is great overall
plus adds gentle fragrance.

..................................................................

orange and lemon tonic:

3 lemons, 1 cucumber, 1 orange
extract juice.
mix with 3 dessertspoons rosewater
add 30 grams alcohol (vodka or brandy)

(esp good for overall color and blackheads.)

1 cucumber, some elderflowers, distilled water,
brandy or vodka.
peel cucumber /slice thin, put in glass saucepot.
add water to cover and simmer low until soft.

add 1 part brandy, to 2 parts cucumber juice.

prepare a elderflower infusion w/ 3 flowers
to 1/4 litre distilled water.
add 1 part elderflower infusion
to 2 parts cucumber/brandy mix.

this is a good lotion for trouble skin.
..................................................................

BEST of the BEST 8) rosemary

1 small bunch rosemary (or tbsp dried.)
1/4 ltr distilled water
2 tsp brandy

simmer rosemary in the distilled water & brandy
low/heat. then strain off the herb.

Walah !! best tonic in town 8)
rosemary is good for wrinkles + blemishes.
just a good old fashioned centuries old
facial beauty care herb 8)
..................................................................

soothing orage blossom tonic:

60 gr. orange blossom infusion
35 gr alcohol *brandy or vodka*

very gentle soothing tonic.
..................................................................

lemon witch hazel:

*very strong do not use every day *
do not leave on skin long or apply to broken skin.*

2 tbsp vodka.
2 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp witch hazel
1 tbsp water
mix all together. use only fresh squeezed lemon

dry to normal cleansers type B

cleanser/ moisturizer:

2 tbsp jojoba oil
2 tsp grapeseed oil
1 drop geranium essential oil

combine ingredients in small vial
and shake well
apply with fresh 100 % cotton ball.
sooth lightly onto skin.
do not apply too much or it will be clogging.

..................................................................

to avoid repeating, see post type a cleansers
for normal skin and lessen alcohol or choose
ones that have no alcohol..
i have found oatmeal to be about the best.

also just plain glycerine (anhydrous) mixed
with water about 1 part glycerine to 4 parts water..
then i add about 1/4 tsp almond oil and a drop
of my fav scents.
for me that is geranium and rose wood blended.
(and i add more oil in if going to use as a hand lotion.)

but for cleansing dry skin you want to keep it light

then after toning/ apply a good moisturiser.

i would highly suggest the rosemary gel in type a
but with no alcohol.
instead add an essential oil
as a preservative.. antibacterial.
rosemary essential oil is one.. also teatree oil.
sage is super, thyme is too.
but remember 1 drop !!
the essential oils are very concentrated
and do need a carrier dab of oil added.

..................................................................

red seed less grapes:
just squish and rub on face.
then rinse.
..................................................................

camomile or marshmallow tea infusions:

mix into glycerine (as above) in place of water.
add one drop anti-bacterial essential oil as listed..
(rosemary, sage, thyme.. even checkout calendula)
..................................................................

dry skin cold cream + makeup remover:

1 part white wax (not parafin)
(can also use bees wax or calendula)
4 parts sweet almond oil
4 parts rosewater OR your choice herbal infusion

melt wax and oil together slowly on low heat
add the rosewater (or infusion) slowly,
a tiny bit at a time beating well as you do,

i would add 1 drop antibacterial ess oil also at this point
like grapeseed oil etc.
..................................................................

cucumber and marshmallow root
are both are very moisturising
and soothing.
best way to use marshmallow root=
steep finely chopped root in cold water
leave sit until it becomes gelatinous.
sieve thru muslin.
add to lotions, cremes, cleaners, etc.

do same with fresh cucumber.
