American Gold Medalist Joey Cheek has stepped up to claim Gold and Silver medals in Speed Skating. U.S. athletes who win medals at the olympics get prize money awarded to them by their olympic comittee. What Joey did was truely inspirational. He donated all his prize money of 25 thousand dollars to the Right To Play Foundation.

From Joey's Website:

"What an amazing day!! Thanks to everyone who has checked out my site, written me, and a huge thanks to all the people who have donated to Right To Play. I have received over four hundred e-mails in the last few days, and I am going to try and write back to everyone, but please be patient - it may take a while!

As of this writing several companies have pledged to match my initial $25,000 donation and the total is over $300,000 going to help refugee children in Chad and the Darfur region of Sudan.

These kids have been forced from their homes, many have lost parents and live in a squalor that few Americans ever witness. There are over 60,000 children who have been forced to flee to Chad already. I am thrilled that so many people watched my race and cheered for my teammates and me, but it means much more to be able to help someone else."

Now if that wasn't inspirational enough, Canada's gold medalist Clara Hughes (also a medalist in summer olympics as well) said to herself before the race, that if she did something big, and got noticed, she would use that spotlight to make a difference. Well she won the gold and man did she step up. Canadian olympians don't get the same bonus that their American counterparts do. So what did Clara do? Well being inspired by Joey Cheek's actions she went ahead and drained her personal bank account of 10 thousand dollars and donated it also to the Right To Play Foundation.

Clara Hughes says:

"I challenge all Canadians. Even if it's $5, $10, $20. A little bit goes a long way."

Two remarkable athletes and inspirational human beings.

Thanks Joey and Clara for stepping up.

Both are asking that donations be sent in the spirit of their gesture.
It's a great cause. Give what you can. Let's all step up!!!
