Writing the language that is making the world continuously smaller is not a simple task, but a simple way to describe the role of computer programmers is that they write code that communicates with other computers or other devices.  Though getting into the field might seem daunting on its face, there are lots of things that you can do to prepare to become a computer programmer.

1. Consider the Question 'Why?'
