Around five millennia ago, the ancient Indian civilization had initiated their own system of medicine known as Ayurveda. “Ayur” means life and “vera” means knowledge. It’s not just one type of medicine, it’s a practice that is still as effective today as it was thousands of years ago.
Ayurvedic medicine comes in many forms, which include medications, supplements, bowel cleansing, meditation, massage therapy, yoga, exercise, tea, and more.
There are even doctors who specialize in ayurvedic medicine, so there are even people that you can talk to for prescriptions.

What Differentiates Ayurvedic Medicine from Normal Medicine?

Ayurvedic medicine is different from “basic” medicine in the sense that health problems occur because your body, mind, and spirit are not in synch with one another. People use ayurvedic medicine and techniques in order to make these three things in balance again.

Specialists, doctors, and practitioners of ayurvedic medicine believe that humanity is made up of “doshas” which are three elements that have control over each of our major body functions. Vata dosha is the element of air and space, which allows us to move properly. Pitta dosha is the element of fire and water, which tolerates change in the body and manages metabolism and digestion. Kapha dosha is the element of water and earth, which allows us to have cohesion and structure.

These three elements work in conjunction with one another so the body works fluidly and healthily as expected. They are also believed to allow us to build a relationship with the environment and nature.

Ayurvedic experts express that our health depends on these three doshas to be in balance with one another. With the use of ayurvedic medicine and exercise, it generally helps the body remove stress and other toxins from the body, prevent and cure diseases, and give us energy.

You can even buy ayurvedic medicine for blood sugar and expect to feel rejuvenated.
The balance of a person’s doshas is believed to determine the likelihood of that person becoming ill. When this happens, the flow of vital energy, also known as prana, becomes interrupted. As gone over earlier, this impairs proper digestion and energy.

Can Ayurvedic Medicine Cure Anything?

While ayurvedic medicine is said to cure diseases or conditions, there is no real evidence to support it, despite its history of helping people for thousands of years.
People who have been diagnosed with cancer use it, and while nothing as of this writing is the cure for cancer, these people claim that using ayurvedic medicine help them cope with cancer as well as treatments for it.

Ayurvedic medicine has also been known to improve a person’s quality of life. Ayurvedic medicine is known to include over 200 different herbs and plants. When researchers have tested ayurvedic medicines on animals with cancer, it has found that the growth of that cancer had slowed down.

Massage is known to reduce stress and help one rest and relax. Meditation can reduce anxiety and decrease blood pressure. Abhyanga is a type of Ayurvedic massage, which can be accompanied by shirodhara, a treatment involving a warm oil poured over your forehead. Of course, you don’t need to have a specific massage or exercise program. Simply having massage, meditation, and exercise should be enough to keep the three doshas in balance with one another.

What Can an Ayurvedic Doctor Do for Me?

You can schedule an appointment with a doctor or practitioner that studies ayurvedic medicine. Your appointment with them would typically last about an hour or so. He or she would start by asking you questions about your health and lifestyle.

Next, he or she will examine your wrists and listen for 12 different pulse points to help determine where you might have an imbalance. He or she may also examine your skin, eyes, lips, nails, and/or tongue.

Once this assessment is finished, the doctor will determine what all three of your doshas are like; which are too big, which are too small, etc.
The doctor will then come up with a treatment plan for you that involves medications, activities, and diets to consider. He may prescribe you with medicine, lay out a schedule for exercise and meditation, or schedule other events like massages.

If you are thinking about ayurvedic medicine, ask your doctor to see if it can benefit you. Ayurveda should not be used to delay or substitute standard care. For any health concerns, it is a good idea to go over them with your doctor.

Conclusion
Ayurvedic medicine has been practiced for thousands of years, known to treat imbalances in the mind, body, and spirit. It is said to help one reduce stress, receive energy, and mitigate symptoms of cancer. Ayurvedic medicine can be worth a try for people willing to take it.
