Simply the name itself - limousine hire has a certain ring to it. Maybe it is because the words chauffeur and limousine both come from French origins, or maybe it is the fact that most people are aware of what a chauffeured limousine represents.

A limousine in most people's eyes is a limousine hire that is very prestigious and exclusive. One must be very privileged to be lucky enough to ride in one.

When you mention the word limo most people think about the long black or white stretch limousine that is used to drive celebrities to a movie premier or awards night. This image has helped build the reputation of the high-class and exclusivity of limousine use.

But in actual fact a limousine can also be a luxury sedan. A prestigious mode of transport nevertheless, this is often overlooked by many.

So too, the word chauffeur brings images of upper class society.

A chauffeur is considered to always be well dressed often in a suit or uniform with driving gloves or cap. To have your own chauffeur gives most people the impression that they have a servant who will drive them anywhere they choose.

When you take the simple fact that hiring a taxi is a form of chauffeured transportation most people's perception immediately changes. No longer is this form or transportation only reserved for the elite end of society.

Pair this with these premier taxi providers and some people may realise that they have in fact travelled in a chauffeured limousine previously.

Pricing Concerns

However with this point in mind you still may ask why then are chauffeured limousines typically more expensive than a taxi?

The answer to this question really depends on one thing. Is this is just your expectation or you have done your research?

You see taxis will use meters to calculate your fare and this is calculated using a combination of distance travelled and time spent in the taxi.

However a typical chauffeured hire car operator will quote per job using their own rates chart while taking into consideration the time and date of the trip, expected traffic and so on.

For this reason you may find that a taxi is often cheaper for shorter trips under 1 hour. However on trips for 1 hour or longer a chauffeured hire car operator may actually be cheaper if not the same cost as a taxi. Of course this does require some investigation on your end, and rates can vary greatly between independent hire car operators.
