Drones

At the very least I am accusing the US Government of very poor planning where ACPTs are dji tello. That is we Americans paid for the development of a very sophisticated communications network yet when we have an emergency on American soil we are denied the very use of such a network. This does not make good sense to me. One day, maybe soon, American lives will at stake and the very technology which can help save American lives will be denied us because of American policy. Sounds crazy I know but this is how things work these days.

Beyond the concept of using drone aircraft for communications (ACPTs) lays a host of other useful drone applications.

* Measurement - There is no better way to map environmental problems than by using drones. For example during the Gulf oil spill dozens of aircraft were dispatch daily to track the spill. Were a drone made available and equipped with the right cameras and sensors the cost of tracking the spill could have reduced costs by a factor of 100. Also by centralizing the means of data collection the task of data analysis would have been much easier and certainly more accurate.

* Incidental Weather Conditions - Several years back an ice storm adversely affected thousands of square miles around the State of Kentucky. The problems included power outages, phone outages and people literally being stranded by ice and cold. Here ACPTs would have given this ice bound area temporary communications allowing people a means of reliable communications.

* Agricultural and Forest Management - Given the horde of new scientific sensors available drones are an ideal platform to constantly measure soil and environmental factors. Such information collected could easily be dispersed to farmers and forest rangers to help manage fertilizer and chemical use and as well predict future growing factors such as moisture. These types of measurements are already being done but in limited amounts due to cost. Drone aircraft could help reduce these mapping costs considerably.

* Structural Analysis - Given the condition of nation's highways drones offer a simple means to survey and evaluate road and bridge condition. The low cost per mile for road evaluation would allow state engineers to see how road conditions, over an entire state, change over time which in turn would provide a more efficient means of dispersing highway construction funds.

* Photography - Aerial photography allows a great way to measure just about anything including the population of people, animals and even insects. With sophisticated software and a new generation of super cameras you can see just about anything from the air you can see on the ground. For example a single drone can photograph thousands of square miles, at high resolution, in a matter of minutes, and download these images in real time. You could even find a lost child in a forest at night using heat sensitive cameras.

These are just a few ideas when it comes to using drones to help humanity. There are many, many more ways drones can be used to efficiently collect information and hopefully, in the future, mankind will get around to using drones to help mankind rather using drones for strictly warfare.
