Return to my roots @Mundo Gardens

A most delightful Sunday April 2 ,2017 that ended at a heart fulfilling community gathering in National City home of the Mundo Gardens, a sweet garden plot where a neighborhood is gathering to celebrate the basics of what makes life real for me,
Shared food, shared positive community support and touching the earth and each other with music, dance, and the desire to bring lasting values.

New friend Janice Luna Reynoso, who started the garden next to the home where she grew up, gathered friends for a Rancho Roots Fest.

I had a vision and dream that every five blocks across San Diego, neighbors would have the experience of coming together like this to grow food and be with one another.

I actually grew up in a neighborhood like that that was quite multicultural.
When my parents were not available there was always the Orozco family and they modeled for me family.

My father helped the synagogue keep running smoothly. Those were the days before automatic light switches and we would always call upon our Catholic neighbors to help turn off and on the lights during our Sabbath experiences Shen we we not allowed to turn the light on or off ourselves,

One of my happiest moments I remember was that we had a rummage sale of sorts at the Los Angeles Jewish Academy right next to what is now the historic Breed Street shule (synagogue) in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles

My mom found a picture of Jesus snd it was her delight to gift it to our neighbors. The immediate neighbor worked down at the harbor. He would bring home large fresh fish. My mother would make it into gefilte fish, a kind of delicacy we enjoyed.

Our neighbors always shared in my mothers cooking. She was such a good baker that the people from the Jewish bakery would come to our house for her baked goods.

Sometimes I wonder where the persistent feeling of loneliness comes from inside my bones. I imagine it's because I grew up in a neighborhood like that where people shared love and kindness in spite of whatever difficulties they had,

My mother died when I was 12.
Signs of what would become arthritis started to show up by the time I was 15. In those days, the word psycho somatic was believed to be some kind of a disease. That was before we recognized that the body and the mind and the emotions were totally connected and that trauma in the emotions could show up and as body imbalances.

I am convinced we will return again to being good neighbors for one another.

That impulse is not only in my genes.

I am most grateful for the love my mother and father shared so freely with people of all races. It marked me.

The day, April 2, ended with #PlantYourDream with kids putting seeds in the ground and those who gathered taking a moment to get in touch with our own dreams.

This Plant Your Dream work
is the kind of work I will be doing during August and September and parts of October as I travel in my 68 VW van called the Enchanted Garden Mobile from San Diego to Northern California, and parts beyond.

My mission is getting simple these days. How many enchanted Garden club members would it take to grow 1000 years of peace?

The Enchanted Garden Club member
is someone who honors their relationship to nature and each other's dreams.

Yesterday I handed out seeds and a new friend on fb read the Enchanted Garden pledge in Spanish.

I'm posting a few of my favorite photos from the fulfilling day.

My prayer is that you too get all the hugs you need and opportunity to be among friends that care for your dreams and well-being.
