Hello! I am a 22 year old, 5'2, 170 lbs female. I have done a 21 day fast before and am already on track to a 40 day or more fast. If you are interested in my experiences, stay tuned!

Previous 21 Day Waterfast:
I'd would like to begin with sharing my experiences from my first water fast as well as some things I have learned. It was around late September 2015 until October. I had decided on doing a 21 day water fast to test myself. I have no physical illnesses but I do suffer from Bipolar II and Major depression. It was my first water fast, completely no experience, never done any sort of fast whatsoever in my short 22 years.

I started off at 160 lbs. I began losing 1-2 lbs a day. At first, I'm sure some of you have read about the first 1-4 days of water fasts being very difficult. On the 3rd day my hunger had begun to dissipate. I spent majority of my time laying down on my bed because I had read that moving and doing other things waste energy meant to replenish and heal your body. I drank very little sips of water throughout my fast.

Unpleasant side effects:

- Acid Reflux: On an off throughout the water fast.
I did have acid reflux in my 8-15 days. As far as I'm concerned, I have never experienced acid reflux in my life, so this was completely new to me.
- Weakness: Lasts throughout the duration of the water fast.
When I would get up to use the restroom, I would instantly become dizzy. So I would slowly sit up straight for about a minute before I tried walking. I did fall a couple times because I had gotten up too quickly but I learned that I need to take my time. On my 15th day I did try to mow my lawn myself. I could barely finish. I had pushed myself too hard that I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I lost breath so easily just by pushing my lawn mower. I walked quickly inside my house and laid on the couch just trying to calm myself down for about 5-10 minutes. I HIGHLY AVISE NO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WHILE DOING A WATERFAST.
- Nausea: Every now and then.
I felt like throwing up most of the time but never to the point of actually doing so. I felt better when I laid down and took a nap.
- Hard time sleeping: There were times when I could not fall asleep at night but when I did, all I needed was 5-6 hours of sleep and I'd feel amazing.
- White tongue and bad breath: Began about my 8th day and lasted the entire time.
My tongue was white and I had really bad breath so I'd brush my teeth more than usual.

Breaking the fast:
Day 1 Beginning weight: 165.2 lbs
Day 17 Ending weight: 141.9 lbs

When I checked the scale I had dropped 23.3 lbs in 17 days.

I did have to break my fast 4 days early because my parents had asked me to help them move into their new home. If I was unable to push a lawn mower, I would be unable to lift heavy boxes. So I broke it early with orange juice. And that was where I messed up.

I spent majority of my time during the water fast researching and reading other people's water fast experiences, but I never came across warnings of breaking a water fast with juice or fruits. Fruits contain sooo much sugar. You did this water fast to cut out sugars only to first break it WITH sugar. I was drinking diluted orange juice for a few days and slowly began adding other fruits and veggies.

I gained back 9 lbs the first 2 weeks. I read that it was normal because you were putting liquids back into your system. Later I completely gave up because I would NOT stop gaining everything back despite eating really healthy foods. But it was because of all the fruits I mostly ate. I truly believe that is the culprit of messing everything up. Present day, I had gained everything back plus another 5 lbs.

I have been doing more and research since then and I have only learned from the mistakes I have made. I will be applying all that I've learned this new fast. I will try to update as much as possible! Possibly every day, if not every other day! Throughout my blog posts, I intend to inform you on my plans to break the fast, perhaps random tips and information about what to do and what not to do.

If anyone has any first-hand experiences or any questions they would like to ask, please ask away! I will try to answer it to the best of my ability. (:
