Phase 2 - Day 5 by exposure .....

Got the new juicer!

Late afternoon on the 5th day of the 2nd leg of this fast, its a strange summer here, today it hailed and its been raining heavily day on day off all week - should normally be cooking this time of year but I'm in longsleeves, a sweater and my fluffy ugg boots - ah well, its peaceful listening to all the rain :)

Got my new Hurom Elite HJ Juicer today - its a heavy little beast, fits up on the counter ok next to my knock off Vitamix which is a good thing as I don't have a whole lot of extra space in the kitchen. So I have made 2 juices today - the first was a mango/spinach juice with a little zucchini and ginger thrown in, it came out waaay too thick like a very thick nectar which caused some dismay until I realized I should have pushed the juice strainer in a little deeper to the thingo

The 2nd juice was a green one, spinach/zucchini/silverbeet from the garden/broccoli/snow peas - it turned out better but still seemed to have more fibre in it that I would have expected - that was disappointing, but I strained the juice through a kitchen strainer and the result was what I had been looking for after that - awesome cold pressed juice free from fibre and wow - great quality. Guess I will have to strain my juices with this thing - kind of suprised that I'd have to but all things considered its a very quick easy thing to do and apart from the extra little step the juice is worlds superior to what I am used to from my old Breville Fountain. Not sure if I'll really use the new juicer for nut milks in the end - the blender might work better, but I'll go the comparison some time and check it out.

One of the completely unexpected benefits to this new juicer is that after making a juice, if I run a litre or a bit less of water through it to clean it, what comes out in the jug is a lovely tasting colorful nutrient water flavored with whatever I juiced - so apart from helping to clean the machine, I found myself this afternoon enjoying several large glasses of this flavored water after the juice - it might sound a bit funny but this is a whole revelation this part - I don't really drink a lot of water - because... its just not that palatable but this flavored water is the ##**@@@@ bomb! Hooked already & wow, this is going to be an awesome thing for me. I could easily bottle some of that and put it in the fridge and just grab it when I'm heading out - totally totally awesome.

Might buy myself some better quality strainers - I have a few old ratty plastic ones on hand but they could do with an update and maybe something a little finer mesh.

So - it took me a little working out but I'm happy - think its totally weird that the juicer doesn't make the froth free clean juice it claims to - there was some froth, there was a lot of fiber still in there - but anyway, its from Korea, maybe they like their juices more like Congee... who knew...

I've had very low calorie days yesterday and today - the whole new leg really, the first day it was 900 something, but its dwindled since then to a couple 600somethings and yesterday and today are in the 300something category which I'm happy with. I feel very bright eyed after the juices today - they are a big change really from the old juicer and I can not just taste and see but really feel the difference. My eyes take a real beating from looking at my phone and the laptop screen - it effects me a lot and I should really limit time spent ah one of those things I know I should do - but the juice actually made me feel a lot better and my eyes really felt it. Just awesome. I started drinking more water yesterday than I've had throughout the whole fast - 4 big glasses yesterday and I'm nearly up to that again today - well, really happy with how the fast is going, my energy has been fine, I've been back to my yoga again yesterday for a proper full sweaty session - I just avoided the neck excercise I thought was the culprit and I was fine - no more injury acting up so that was great.

Going to keep going :) Think I've done my juices for today - 2 juices a day really is a lot of nutrition - I don't really crave any more than that. Anyway, its all about going with what feels right. I've been enjoying the new morning ritual of drinking a small glass of charcoal water then a little half glass with a shot of lemon juice topped up with warm water. All this is making a difference, I'm feeling more vibrant, looking more youthful - feeling less craving.
