The root cause of all addictions
Date: 3/30/2015 8:30:08 AM ( 9 y ago)
This morning I was inspired with the idea that addiction is an identity crisis. I then made a note: "Addiction and Self-Realization" with the intention of searching this tonight. I just started the search using the search terms: addiction"self realization".
The first item that got my full attention was the 9th result on the second page:
"The Addiction Process: A Systemic Cultural Condition - Google Books Result":
“ … The root cause of all addictions is the separation from our spiritual source, the innermost self … the separation begins at the moment of birth into a culture of established beliefs and old ideas that are promulgated and enforced through society’s primary institutions of family, religion, and education. These institutions never allow the Sacred Seed to unfold and blossom. They never allow the Seed to have a fertile soil where it is watered and it can grow. Instead, they intervene and condition us to be what they want us to be, and so the Seed becomes dormant and is replaced by a conditioned false-self that becomes the identity that determines our reality. …”:

Quoted from "The Addiction Process: A Systemic Cultural Condition" By Bob Colonna
Regarding: "society’s primary institutions of family, religion, and education" -
After I graduated from my college-prep technical high school in Chicago my father presented me with three options to continue living at home and one of which was to attend college. I did not consider that option at all! I was throughly disappointed with the education system. About a year later I had a disillusioning experience at my church regarding how the priest was performing the service. Within a couple months I stopped attending. The "culture of established beliefs and old ideas that are promulgated and enforced" by "family" was the last "institution" for me to let go of and that was only fairly recently after my father and sister had crossed the threshold.
Re: "the Sacred Seed" -
My destiny revolves around "the Sacred Seed". Although it is not a term mentioned within the Human Design System (that I have blogged about here at this Blog site) - I believe that this "Seed" is what Human Design is all about.
Re: "have a fertile soil" -
My vision for an eco-village community that I call "Cheeta"[1] is all about cultivating this fertile soil in all the many ways that life requires.
Re: conditioning -
This is a term that is found within the Human Design System (HDS).[2] According to HDS de-conditioning requires a a seven-year cycle transformation process. I agree and can imagine it taking longer for some.
Re: dormancy -
it is helpful for me to be reminded that regardless of all outer appearances that may be perceived and judged in any number of ways the Seed lies within and may only be dormant - waiting for the fertile ground.
Re: "conditioned false-self" -
HDS call this the "not-self".[3]
Re: "reality" -
I count it most fortunate that I began questioning reality at a relatively young age before I left home. If nothing else, the 60s culture at that time included opportunities for this kind of questioning and I seized upon those opportunities with great gusto! The result is that I am at peace not living in a reality that is determined by "a conditioned false-self"!

September 15, 2017 - The Self-Realization answer to the "identity crisis" (as that includes "spiritual ignorance") -
Paramahansa Yogananda founded Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920 and in 1925 established the international headquarters for SRF in Los Angeles, California.
"Yogananda wrote down his Aims and Ideals for Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society:
To disseminate among the nations a knowledge of definite scientific techniques for attaining direct personal experience of God.
To teach that the purpose of life is the evolution, through self-effort, of man’s limited mortal consciousness into God Consciousness; and to this end to establish Self-Realization Fellowship temples for God-communion throughout the world, and to encourage the establishment of individual temples of God in the homes and in the hearts of men.
To reveal the complete harmony and basic oneness of original Christianity as taught by Jesus Christ and original Yoga as taught by Bhagavan Krishna; and to show that these principles of truth are the common scientific foundation of all true religions.
To point out the one divine highway to which all paths of true religious beliefs eventually lead: the highway of daily, scientific, devotional meditation on God.
To liberate man from his threefold suffering: physical disease, mental inharmonies, and spiritual ignorance.
To encourage “plain living and high thinking”; and to spread a spirit of brotherhood among all peoples by teaching the eternal basis of their unity: kinship with God.
To demonstrate the superiority of mind over body, of soul over mind.
To overcome evil by good, sorrow by joy, cruelty by kindness, ignorance by wisdom.
To unite science and religion through realization of the unity of their underlying principles.
To advocate cultural and spiritual understanding between East and West, and the exchange of their finest distinctive features.
To serve mankind as one’s larger Self."[4]
