This surgery is called perentaneous nephrolithotomy

Surgery requires a small incision be made in the patient's back, right above the kidney area, so that the kidney stone can be removed by hand. This procedure is usually only done after the patient has undergone Lithotripsy without any results.

The ureteroscope is a lit tube, thin and flexible, that can be guided through the urethra to the bladder. This scope is equipped with tools that can grab the stone or break it down into smaller pieces to allow them to pass harmlessly in the urine.
