"In Paleo circles, it’s sometimes said that while the world has changed in innumerable ways in the last 10,000 years, our genes have changed very little. And further, that we really only thrive in a world with similar conditions to the Paleolithic era.
Quite frankly, this is not how evolution or genetic expression works.
If humans could thrive only in an environment similar to or the same as the ones their ancestors lived in, our species would not have lasted very long.
Examples of the ways we have evolved in the past 10,000 years abound.
For example, over the past 8,000 years or so, about forty per cent of us have developed the capacity to consume dairy for a lifetime. As a species, we’re evolving a mutation whereby we continue to produce the lactase enzyme to break down lactose for far longer periods than our ancestors ever could. True, not everyone can digest lactose well, but more of us can do so than ever before.
And studies have shown that even people who don’t digest lactose well are capable of consuming moderate amounts of dairy, tolerating an average 12 grams of lactose at a time (the amount of lactose in one cup of milk) with few to no symptoms.
Additionally, the emerging science of epigenetics is showing that a 'blueprint' alone isn’t enough — genes can be 'switched off' or 'on' by a variety of physiological and environmental cues."
-
All fine & well and the lacto-fermentation of dairy needs to be added to this account as lacto-fermentation changes the state of lactose by predigesting it.
-
The above article continues to say: "many people can alleviate symptoms of lactose intolerance by eating yogurt or other probiotic-rich foods that provide lactose- digesting bacteria.

So even if you don’t naturally break down lactose well, it’s possible, through the right combination of foods and/or probiotic supplements, to persuade the bacteria in your gut to do this job on your behalf."

My suggestion for yogurt is to get (or make yourself) a raw milk goat yogurt rather than the commercial yogurts available in the stores. Or make yourself raw goat milk kefir (as you probably can't find that in the stores). However if you can't get these then shop for a raw plain naturally cultured yogurt and/or kefir without additives made with whole non-homogenized milk from grass-fed animals. I don't know that these are available in the stores and in that case the best recommendation I have is contact your Weston A. Price local chapter.[2]

Traditional wisdom is universally found within each of the cultures and therfore there are many ancient "wise traditions". One of the oldest is ayurveda. I am the most blessed to have a new housemate who is connected with this traditional wisdom stream! In fact this graduate philosophy student just gifted me with several of his connections in ayurveda. The first one is his personal health practitioner whom I am beginning to be introduced to by way of the practitioner's writings.
The four connections that were gifted to me came about when I expressed my inspiration to my housemate (all in the same conversation) that I could consider creating another documentary-type production on real milk that includes more of the spiritual aspects from different cultures and possibly starting from an ayruvedic perspective. Arun Deva was the first of the four of my housemates offerings to me.:
"Ayurveda strongly recommends a glass of warm milk with ginger and cinnamon at bedtime to help one sleep.":

I'm going to try the ginger and cinnamon in my goat miilk clabber warmed up.
Just posted at yogarasayana.com:
"A most wonderful article! Imbued with an abundance of love, compassion and insight all badly needed thoughout the collective psyche of our modern world. This nourishes my inspiration for more DVD creations continuing from where I left off with 'Raw Milk: The Whole Truth'.:

The Ayurvedic View on Drinking Milk
"According to ayurveda, milk provides special and unique nutrition that cannot be derived from any other type of food. Milk, when digested properly, nourishes all the tissues, promotes balanced emotions, and helps to balance all the doshas. It is one of the most important foods to promote ojas.
According to ayurveda, ojas is a refined substance the body produces from the most subtle level of proper digestion. Ojas brings strength, strong immunity, happiness, and contentment according to Ayurveda. Therefore milk is a very important food to include regularly in one's diet especially if you follow a vegetarian lifestyle."

However, I do not recommend fully boiling the milk as this page states. Warming to a drinkable temperature will be much better for both the milk (if it is real/raw milk) and anyone drinkingh it.
I have been drinking raw goat milk clabber for well over a year straight and I can't fully tell you just how contented I am having this plus some additonal whey, goat cheese, fresh pastured eggs (and a couple other items) as the lion's share of my diet now! I wish everyone could be as contented and happy!
