Leslie wins $200 in Hearst Contest 1970--Clipping
Found this clipping that I have saved over the years.
I was a journalism student at San Fernando Valley State College that later became Cal State Northridge.
It was quite a story of being notified about the award.
I was manning the tables for a protest against Kent State. We wanted to shut down the campus.
Dr. DeWayne B. Johnson, my friend, came up to me.
I wonder how he is doing. He had a stroke. I called him last fall 2013.

Leslie, you are absolutely one of my most wonderful Fortunate Blessings. It was great to see you, to touch you to break bread (and beans) with you, and to live in your space.
Thank you for inviting me, for arranging for a much-needed rest for me at the ranch.
And thank you most of all Leslie, for all of your indescribable hardships. Thank you arthritis, thank you Bernie is, thank you headaches, and backaches. Thank you heart breaks, and dreams passed by thank you raccoons, and field mice. Thank you torrential downpours, and hurricanes. Thank you for lessons learned from all of her creation, from all the carvings on the canyon walls to everything in the compost pile.
