My days of preparation leading up to a 40 day water-only fast

I am currently on day 7 of a water only fast (goal is to hit 40 days but at the very least complete 21) and thought it might be a good idea to document it for others. This entry focuses on the days leading to my day 1. First, I am fasting for physical and spiritual breakthrough. I originally tried to fast starting New Year's day but after nearly two more full days of water fasting, I could not handle the caffeine withdrawal headaches. I ate the evening of Jan. 3rd (for comfort) through the 5th and added coffee back into my diet (just enough to eliminate the withdrawal headaches~reducing the amount each day). Starting on 1-6-13, I decided to prepare, this time, over the course of 3 days by eliminating solids to prepare for water only (to reduce detox headaches). I had 1/2 cup of coffee, gatorade, chicken broth and tea. I eliminated coffee the following day and continued with the same liquids. The next day I added coconut water (for a bm which didn't happen) mixed in powdered hot chocolate and only one cup of tea with the broth and gatorade. These three days were spent dealing with slight hunger pangs and headaches (which I took pain reliever for on a couple occasions). I am glad I dealt with the caffeine issue and prepared with only liquids because it made my early days of water fasting much much easier.
