Monday Morning Reflections
Eight Days before the Vote on Prop 37

It is Monday morning. Tuesday, November 6 is election day. That means we are eight days before the impending Vote on Prop 37, The People's Initiative to Label GMOs in California.

This initiative, that was started by Pamm Larry, a grandma from Chico who I have met a number of times, got on the ballot through near 1 million signatures being turned in May 2 to the Registrar of voters. We needed something like 550,000 to get on the ballot.

Yesterday, was the Hillcrest Farmers' Market, one of the most popular Farmers' Markets in San Diego County. I am friends with the market manager, and work side by side some of the organic farmers.

I spend many of my days at the computer writing and am best having a hermit's life in part. Sunday--Farmers' Market--day is one of the highlights of my week.

The last two weeks have been different. I have not enjoyed the Hillcrest Farmers' Market.

I spent many days last week in disappointment. I wasn't looking forward to this weeks market. It had to do with Prop 37.

A number of my allies at the market, people I have worked with, people who I have bought food from for many years and who have helped me to promote various events over the years through the contribution of organic food to events, are voting No on 37.

The highlight and my main objective yesterday was spending time with Phil Noble of Sage Mountain Farm.

He was considering voting No on 37 a week ago. He told me his reasons. He was concerned ideas he had heard from the other farmers. He was concerned about a blanket lawsuit against farmers related to Prop 37.

He told me the San Diego Farm Bureau was voting No on 37.

"Why would the Farm Bureau be against Voting Yes on Prop 37?" he asked me.
