Sehkhomang: If I understand you correctly, you want to enter split transactions in Quicken. Right?
Leslie Goldman: Sehkhomang, I am having a difficult time adjusting from Quicken 07 to Quicken Essentials for the Mac. Did you have an answer to my question about using a split and entering various different payees? For example, I have a rent deposit with seven people. Each pays a different amount. Is there any way to have the individual payees listed or just as tags?
Leslie Goldman: Yes, I want to enter a split transaction in Quicken.
Sehkhomang: Which version of Quicken are you using?
Leslie Goldman: 1.7.2
Sehkhomang: It is Quicken Essential Mac 2010. Right?
Leslie Goldman: I believe I got an upgrade.
Leslie Goldman: I started with Quicken 2010. I am using Lion.
Sehkhomang: Yes, you are using Quicken Essential Mac, that is why you have Release 1.7.2
Sehkhomang: To enter split transactions in Quicken.

Open Account Register.
Click on New button at the bottom of the Account register.
Type in for the payee name and move it to Category field.
Click Split button at the bottom of the account register.
Leslie Goldman: ok i am going there....hold on.
Sehkhomang: Sure!
Leslie Goldman: when you say move it to the catagory field. Do you mean copy the payee into the catagory field?
Sehkhomang: No, after you type in or select the payee name, place cursor on the category field. Then click Split button at the bottom of the account register.
Sehkhomang: Are you done with entering the split transactions?
Leslie Goldman: O.K. I see. SO if I want to note who the money came from, it goes in the memo/ notes field?
Sehkhomang: Yes, that's correct.
Leslie Goldman: How do I get it to calculate the new total, Sehkhomang?
Sehkhomang: May I know what new total are you referring here?
Leslie Goldman: I am making up a split. I originally had a total of $138.00 and thee catagories. THen I aded a couple more split with amounts. The balance goes into a negative number to the left. -130. The total at the top stays as it was. $138.00 how to do get it to recalculate the new amount of the split?
Leslie Goldman: I started with a quickfill transaction that had been saved. the total was $138.00 for three catagories of the split.
Sehkhomang: You can also delete this split transaction and re enter with with the correct amount.
Leslie Goldman: when I add another split, below it it gives a negative number of the total difference between the amount in the total above $138.00. How do I get it to recalculate a new total amount that includes the negative Number that calculates automatically in the cash out column?
Leslie Goldman: it says remainder -260.00 to the left.
Sehkhomang: Can you send me a screen shot of your Split Category?

Sehkhomang: What is the amount that you can see under Deposit column for this split transaction?
Leslie Goldman: The total is $138,00 at the top below are splits of 26,00, 65.00, 45.00, 45.00, 20,00, 65.00 and 130. To the left below is a remainder of -260.00. Yes I can send a screen shot. Can you review how to do that shot?

1.Press Command+Shift+4.
2.Click and drag the cursor around the area you want to capture.
3.When you release the mouse button, a file will be saved on your desktop

Sehkhomang: Please edit transaction and Change $448.00 to 523.00.
Click on SAVE.
Leslie Goldman: yes...I think I figured out one way. Is this the only way to get a new total? YOu erase the total on top. Then it gives you an amount remainder and you copy that into the new total on top!
Sehkhomang: Yes, that's correct.
Sehkhomang: Now is everything correct?
Leslie Goldman: yes. so you have to erase the total on top...see the negative in the remainder and then copy it to the top.
Sehkhomang: Yes
Leslie Goldman: O.K. now how do I erase that practice transaction?
Sehkhomang: You want to delete transaction. Right?
Leslie Goldman: yes.
Leslie Goldman: O.K. I figured that out. before it was not deleting. not it did.

Leslie Goldman: You did a great job helping me. I feel a lot better. How do I create a report to see this transaction if I want?
Sehkhomang: On the left hand side of your Quicken program, you will see Reports. There you can click on the report that you want.
Leslie Goldman: hold on I want to check that out now....
Sehkhomang: Okay
Leslie Goldman: O.K. I see how to do that!!!! I was able to make a customized report. I am doing a very important caravan to the National Heirloom Expo September 11-13. I am teaching there.
Sehkhomang: I appreciate that!
Leslie Goldman: It has really been difficult adjusting to Quicken Essentials from Quicken 2007. So...in other words...if you want to note who gave you the money...you write that in the memo column. I want to see if there is a way in the report to have the memo note show up....that is important.

Leslie Goldman: Onr other think. How do i ge the sidebar to show. Sometimes it disappears I do not know how to make it show up.
Leslie Goldman: One other thing...how do I get the sidebar to show up. Sometimes it disappears....
Sehkhomang: May I know what side bar are you referring here?
Leslie Goldman: The one that show reports and the various accounts.
Sehkhomang: That disappear in case you open the account register by double clicking the account name. You can simply close the account register and you will see the side bar.
Sehkhomang: Do you have any more question that you would like to ask while we are online?
Leslie Goldman: Yes. About this last information. When I go to a specific account, there is no sidebar. Can I see the sidebar with an account viewing?
Sehkhomang: Yes, do not double click the account name to open Register. Single click the account name on the left side of your Quicken program to open, that will show you the side bar as well as the account register.
Sehkhomang: Does that take care of the issue?
