TPPA Trans Pacific Partnership Agreements interesting by YourEnchantedGardener .....

TPPA Trans Pacific Partnership Agreements interesting. Interview with Lori Wallach of Global Trade Watch of Public Citizen. This clarifies some things about the World Trade Organization (WTO). She says in this interview the consumers in US want to know the Country of Origin for their food...the RIght to Know...but the WTO opposed this knowing...because it would hurt Trade from the countries involved.

This is a photo of Chieko Shiina, a mother and once-upon-- time organic farmer from Fukushima whose life is now absorbed in contaminated fields; and mothers and children being exposed to conditions that cause cancer every day. Her life has been altered by decisions we made about using nuclear power in Japan. Behind closed doors, the Trans Pacific Partnership nations are now imagining Trade Agreements that may not be in the best interests of our shared future and may likely create more cancerous conditions. Chieko is on tour now in California. I am updating this on, July 11, 2012

TPPA: A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

BY Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener

I spent about 15 hours July 9 writing out some of my personal feelings about my week being exposed to TPP, or TPPA, The Trans Pacific Partnership Agreements; its meetings at the Hilton Bayfront, July 2-July 10; the events we had in San Diego as part of the Better World Conference; and the protest.

This early morning I find myself seeking more information about the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreements.

The 13th Round of these international Trade Agreements concluded at 7 pm last night at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel in San Diego. They were gong on since July 2, 2012.

I want to get to the bottom of this.

I want to understand what this is really about.

The Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on Facebook aims to open discussion between GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers.

I am expanding the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on Facebook to include Lovers of TPPA who love Free Trade and Lovers of Fair Tradel

It is clear that those who favor TPPA, as far as I can see, favor
are GMO Lovers.

Fair Trade Lovers I imagine would favor indigenous Seeds.

‘Significant Progress’ In Pacific Trade Talks, U.S. Says

By Brian Wingfield - Jul 10, 2012 12:27 PM PT

The article says:

Copyright protection is no longer about ensuring that authors are justly compensated for their work, according Jeffrey Schott, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. The process is also being used to recoup investment on patented goods including pharmaceuticals, he said.

The articles says:

“We are troubled that important policy decisions are being made without full input from Congress,” 132 lawmakers led by Representatives Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and George Miller of California, said in a June 27 letter to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk. Senators including Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, have voiced similar concerns.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, a California Republican from the San Diego area, sought to attend the discussions, a rare request from a lawmaker. USTR granted him access only to the public portions of the event, not the negotiations, and he didn’t attend, Jeffrey Solsby, a committee spokesman, said in an e-mail.
Congressional Complaints
The Obama administration “should be courting Congress,” including Issa, according to Susan Ariel Aaronson, a professor of trade policy at George Washington University in Washington.
While it’s important to inform members of Congress, disclosing too much information “would make negotiation of any sort quite difficult,” Ed Gresser, a policy adviser at USTR during President Bill Clinton’s administration, said in an interview.

Jane Kelsey: Secrecy in investment talks mocks democracy69

Trade Minister Tim Groser. Photo / APN
The animated commentary and debate last week over the leaked investment chapter from the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) negotiations shows how relevant and important it is - and why the nine parties are so desperate to keep it secret.

There was an equally vibrant buzz in the US after Public Citizen leaked the text. Huffington Post's story logged 28,000 comments within a day, treble the previous highest response.

The reassurances that trip off the tongues of Trade Minister Tim Groser and Prime Minister John Key seem much less convincing when they can be checked against the text.

Comment from Kelsey Piece:

An academic purporting to criticise a treaty should portray its proposals honestly, eg:

DEMOCRATS CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY IN TPP NEGOTIATIONS

“We are troubled that important policy decisions are being made without full input from Congress,” lawmakers led by Representatives Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and George Miller of California said in a letter today to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

FROM JOHN HIVELY

Senator Ron Wyden, who is supposed to represent the people of Oregon, but who represents the 1 percent of people who use Wall Street to steal money from the 99 percent, is not happy with the latest income redistribution scam put forth by the Obama administration. That scheme seeks to redistribute more and more income from working people to the ultra wealthy.

The senator is the chairman of the senate subcommittee on trade. He is leading the charge against the scam, which is something of a miracle, but more of a coincidence, since he normally aids and abets such plots against the American people.

The Trans Pacific Trade Agreement (TPP) is being negotiated in secrecy, except for the 600 corporate lobbyists with access to the negotiators and a few members of congress. The negotiations involve twelve nations and it’s going to be bigger than Nafta. That’s a ton of income the Obama administration is planning to redistribute from working Americans to Wall Street.

Leaked documents show the pharmaceutical corporations want higher prices. Can you guess whose pockets they intend to pick when the TPP is enacted into law? Yours, or some other working stiffs somewhere. And then Big Pharma will take their higher prices, swell their profits, jack up their dividends and pump up their share prices. That’s how the extra money working stiffs will pay to stay healthy and alive will wind up in the pockets of the affluent. Think about it for just a moment.

The Obama administration is negotiating to jack up the price working people will pay to stay alive. That’s how the free trade income redistribution scam works. Your money or your life. Sounds like highway robbery to me.
