The Inspirations Behind The '7.5 Million + 2 Petition'
"Grow a Healthier Pizza!" began with a number of "ingredients" coming together.
Support from Bob Quinn Introduced me to KAMUT ® Khorasan Wheat.
Enter Stage Right was Bob Quinn, founder of KAMUT ® International. He introduced me Fall 2011 to a friend of his, an ancient wheat grain called Khorasan. Legend said, he told me, that the wheat was with Noah on the Ark.
The ancient wheat seed soon became one of my plant teachers. By the time of the the Natural Product Expo West in March, Bob had sent me a 50 lb bag for my Spring Projects.
The idea of plant dreams with seeds has been an ongoing project, and the addition of Kamut was a natural fit. Ancient wheat was the subject of one of my favorite stories by Edmond Bordeaux Szekely.

The idea advanced.
I saw a flyer at the Natural Product Expo West about a new Brick and Mortar in West L.A. called SliceTruck Pizza. They were the first pizza store in the US that was making Pizza with the Kamut flour. At the time I had already been invited to present at a Medical High School Fair at Hamilton High School April 25, not far from SliceTruck's new store. I went on a Pizza Pilgrimage and met a most delightful Pizza maker, Chris Hanley. Kamut Came to Chris out of his intention to make a better Pizza. He has been experimenting with the Kamut dough for months.

The Inspirations Behind The '7.5 Million + 2 Petition'
Chef Palmer LaRue, a visiting chef at the fair, and I came together around the idea of gently improving foods--inch by inch at Hami, a school where I have been teaching for a number of years the Plant Your Dream Work.
At the Hami Medical Fair, I not only had the KAMUT (R) but an assortment of organic cheeses from Horizon Organic and other delights that were part of Taste Organic, another project that had been evolving.
The exhibit, placed between the UCLA School of Human Nutrition, and scientists to my left from the Cedar Sinai Stem Cell Project, was a big hit. I had an array of Organic veggies from my San Diego Organic Farmers to share. The color alone was a draw, as well as the fresh organic food entering the scene at Hami, and lovely organic chocolate milk from Horizon Organics.
KAMUT® on TV May 2 When we Turned in Ballot for the Right to Know
On May 2, San Diego turned in more than 275,000 of close to 1 million signatures. I brought pots and images of organic Kamut grass and alfalfa were on the broadcast as well as the message that growing your own food was one way to be sure your food was GMO Free.
KAMUT Served for Lunch and was a Sponsor of the Event
In Early May, we had the Cultivating Food Justice Event at a local school. Cheese, chocolate milk, and Kamut were again big hits. The KAMUT was one of the main dishes for the food lunch, prepared by Heather Weightman, a great local chef and food advocate. I was hot on the trail to collect signatures for the Ballot initiative.
Enter Non GMO Tomato Seeds from Baker Creek Rare Seeds
Another ingredient in the mix, showed up early on in the Label GMO Ballot Initiative. A lady in clown face came to the Hillcrest Farmers' Market with Baker Creek Non GMO Tomato Seeds.
KAMUT® Khorasan wheat? Non GMO Tomato Seeds used for Pizza Sauce? The Label GMO Initiative? Those were the first ingredients in the dough to come together. I already had the intention to grow more gardeners. It seemed a natural fit to produce them through asking new by gardeners to to plant the Khorasan wheat and tomatoes with the intention to Grow a Healthier Pizza as well as other intentions.
The Caravan to the National Heirloom Expo is Born
The idea of going to the Natural Heirloom Expo was born as soon as I talked to Chris Fischer of Baker Creek Rare Seeds, and doing a Caravan up there was soon on my radar.
I was already asking people if they wanted to go, by May 5, 2012 and building up the energy for the show.

Non GMO Seeds? GMO Seeds? Many will know the importance of deciding which to use as the Caravan Continues.
This is the 100 Anniversary of Dr. Wiley Leaving the FDA After Helping Pass The Pure Food Law in 1906. Dr. Wiley left the FDA in 1912, protesting the inability of Congress to apply the Pure Food Law. In this Cartoon, Uncle Sam is talking to Dr Wiley, and giving him a pat on the back for at least attempting. Commercial interests, as his ally, Dr. Alfred W. McCann writes in "Starving America" and "The Science of Eating" (1919) prevailed. McCann, as well as Luther Burbank, 1906, saw an important need to not ignore our children. McCann said in his books that it would take a long while for Congress to grapple with the facts that he espoused about violated grains and adulterated foods. Not is the time, 100 years later to take up the the cause once more for Pure Food.
Our Caravan journey has already started. We began with raising this awareness: We have the Right to Know what is in our food Label GMO Ingredients. Pizza, as well as 80% of our foods today are made with GMO ingredients. Let the people at least know what they are eating so they can decide what where they want to spend their money. Congress, over the century, has continually surrendered to food interests. Last November 2011, they defined Tomato Sauce on Pizza as a Vegetable. We have the obligation, in behalf our our Children, to Grow a Healthier Pizza.
What are we eating in Pizza? GMO Foods need to be labeled. This Caravan journey will show the ingredients we are eating that are GMO, as well as tout Taste Organic.
The Right to Know Issue is about Consumer Right
The California Right to Know Label GMO Foods is an issue of consumer rights, and yet there is abroad spectrum of opinion between GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers. I would like to see our school children understand the Pros and Cons of GMO Foods as applied to agriculture and our foods.
There needs to be an honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food that I would like to see increased. Right now, Uncle Sam in in the farm bed with GMO Biotechnology. The Marriage between Uncle Sam and "Anti" GMO needs to be on the table as well.
What is in our "Food?" Let us at least have choice to decide how many GMO Foods we want to eat. Will American remain in the dark about what food is and what we are eating? What is the cost of keeping us in the dark about GMO labeling to our health and to our dreams?

I am sorry to those who have made bad investments, but if there is to be a Future for healthy people, then this engagement is needed: Uncle Sam Marries "Anti" GMO Foods. Let the Dialogue begin.

<Looking Back: One Year Ago During the Time of the National Heirloom Expo, September 11-12-13, 2012
As I see it, I will leave from San Diego, CA around September 1 for the National Heirloom Expo, September 11-12-13, 2012 in Santa Rosa, California. This is the same month as the Rosh Hashana begins, the Jewish New Year. Last September, with the help of Feng Shui with Lurrae, I had a driver helping me go from New York to Washington D.C. (and Baltimore). We were following in the path that the Right2Know March would travel a few weeks later.
Each place we stopped, mainly at Rest Stops, I literally planted seeds and gave organic seeds away. I was blowing a Shofar, the Ram's Horn at each stop. The Ram's Horn signals a Moment of Awakening.
I Spoke at Organic Listening Day, September 20, 2012
On September 20, 2011, I spoke at Organic Listening Day at the USDA. This was an incredible moment. Mark lipson, who organized the day, wrote me a note that said, "Thank you for being our Enchanted Gardener." The following night, Mark was given a Leadership Award from the Organic Trade Association (OTA) in Baltimore. I mentioned my name and that I helped him remember why he had come to work for the USDA. I stood up and took a bow. The leadership in Organic Industry gave me an applause. I deeply appreciate that support. I planted a Seed Dream then to get a campaign to get 1 million more youth gardening. That work is proceeding thanks to my National Organic Sponsors and Natural Product Industry allies. I make appearances in the classroom as Uncle Leslie with my Niece Becker of Hamilton High School, where in less than three years we have planted a garden. 'Plant Your Dream' is something I have introduced to them. In Spring I was part of a Medical Fair at Hami. 'Taste Organic' and 'Grow a Healthier Pizza' was right in between a nurse from the UCLA school of Human Nutrition, and to my right Scientists from the Cedar-Sinai Hospital doing Stem Cell education. Organic Chocolate milk from Horizon Organics and their sliced Organic cheeses were projected as part of 'Grow a Healthier Pizza.' The youth sample my favorite Quintessential Solutions for the Compelling Health Issues Facing Us. They tasted sampled FES flower essences, and Season of the Soul Oils. They learned about the need for micro-nutrients that balance our internal-external Bioterrain. In that Science classroom, you will find pins from Stonyfield Farm about 'Know what is in your refrigerator; bumper stickers about 'Co-exist" from Bronner Magic Soaps; and my own art that says, 'Plant a Seed. Grow a Whole New World.
The National Heirloom Exposition,September 11, 12 & 13, falls about two months before election Day, November 6, 2012. a day when Californians will vote on the ballot initiative that says we have a 'Right to Know-Label GMOs.' We can build together the Greatest Grassroots movement in California History. We can spread the word Food Reform is long due and the cry for it is 'Grow a Healthier Pizza!' Voices from the Past, Present, and Future are speaking now. I am listening. The Future belongs to all of us. We are 'Sacred Seeds' and we are hear, as the Sacred Mountain says, to Plant Your Dream!"

Writing before July 4
I cannot think of a more imporant time for California to have a Moment of Awakening then now.
On November 6, 2012, all eyes of the world will be on California. By the End of November 7, more than likely, the fate of the evolution of Sacred Seeds will be sealed.
Right now, my friends at Monsanto Corporation have been allowed to own most of the Seeds Companies of the world. He (and She who controls the seeds, and therefore the Food, controls the World. That is pretty simple to anyone who can adds crunch numbers.
The US Government does not mind Monsanto owning our seeds. Bill Gates does not mind Monsanto owning own Seeds. The many investors in Monsanto on the Stock Exchange do not mind this either. However, I personally get my walking papers from a Talking Beet Plant, called Keep The Beet Media Star, The World's First Talking Beet Plant.
Keep the Beet has be up right now, while I am waking up birds here along the Rim of the Arosa Canyon in San Diego. Keep The Beet is telling me that Seeds are Sacred, and no one should own our Seeds. Seeds from my point of view belong to God, but I am willing to Coexist with all kinds of other points of View; however, Coexistence does not work very well in the realm of Seed Reproduction.
When you plant Organic Seeds, or conventionally Canola Seeds next to Seeds that have been Genetically Modified by my friends at Monsanto, the organic seeds cannot coexist along side the GMO Seeds.
Percy, who will be speaking at this years National Heirloom Expo September 11,12 & 13 found that out. He has been telling his story for more than a decade now, so if you haven't heard him tell him, come to the National Heirloom Expo, or Google Percy S vs Monsanto.
Now this is my plan
I am not asking for the demise of Monsanto. I personally have met numbers of Monsanto employees. I like them. What I am saying is...it is important that we know help Monsanto come to its senses. My preference is that Monsanto become once a again a very small company in Saint Louis, rather than a multi-national powerhouse influencing the destiny of the next 1000 years of humanity.
I personally feel GMO Technology is a failed idea that has no real science behind it; however, for more than two years now, I have put out a call for GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers to Talk. I am asking all GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers to Close the Gap and enter an Honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food on Facebook.
The rules include no cussing or name calling. Let's just put our facts, ethics, and knowledge of how seeds grow on the table.
As far as 7.5 +2 people voting in favor of the RIght to Know Label GMOs in California November 6, that is my Seed Dream.
The 7.5 +2 came out of listeing to Pamm Larry. Someone asked in one of our meeting, how many people had voted in the last election, or presidential election. She said "15 million had voted in California." All it will take then is 78.5 million + 2 people to help Monsanto come to its senses.
I also want to be clear, The California Right to Know GMO Campaign is not about ending GM0s. I personally confess, I eat GMOs, as most Americans do now. I simple want the right to go into Vons or Whole Foods Market, and know exactly what foods I can choose to purchase when I want to eat GMOs.
There are about 40 other nations who have given this Right to Know to their people. I can not see why it is any big deal for me to have a right to know without having to Carry Jeffrey Smith's Non GMO shopping Guide with me into the store.
O.K. O.K., some people say, that if I want to avoid GMOs I should just eat organic and shop the Farmers' Market. I already do that most of the time; however, it is a principle of Democracy for me that is at stake here. I simple do not feel it is fair that the science students at Hamilton HIgh School, do not have the choice right now, to know whether they are getting GMOs in the Pizza that our Congress is called a Vegetable.
That is why I will be teaching Grow a Healthier Pizza at the National Heirloom Expo Show, and up and down the coast between September 1-September 10.
So, if you agree with me, that Californians have the Right to Know and Label GMOs, and you live in California, and are Registered to Vote, please go to this Petition on Change.Org, and put let me know you endorse the California Right to Know Label GMO initiative.
I also want to clarify, there is presently, in Phase Two, a move to educate about GMOs as well as collect endorsements that will go on the California RIght to Know website. Pamm says, that they are mainly want VIP and Community figureheads in each community to endorse. They would be happy with about 20,000 or more endorsers.
Keep the Beet sees something else. She sees every person in California as a having a very important Seed Dream. I believe, as Your Enchanted Gardener, that my friends at Monsanto truly believe that they can feed the world through GMO seeds and GMO Big Ag Technology.
I simple have a different point of view, and want to reiterate: It is time that GMO Lovers and Organic Lovers Talk.
