Here is a comment posted below an article on American government spending on war machinery while at the same time cutting much needed social programs [such as helping disabled senior citizens live independantly].
I will pass the microphone to Mr. Paul Fretheim:
"Here is an example of something we must do to avoid suicide by carbon:
Take the $1.5 TRILLION proposed to be spent on F-35 warplanes. It is enough money to put an $11,000 solar array on every single family home in the United States, about 74 million homes. That would cost $275 billion. That leaves $1.225 TRILLION from the savings by not building the 2,400 F-35 warplanes.
At today's prices - photovoltaic has dropped drastically in price in the last year - an $11,000 array will produce enough electricity to power an energy efficient 3 bedroom 2 bath home with enough left over each day to fully charge a 24 kwh car battery, which is the size of the batteries in the Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus or Chevrolet Volt.
The $1.225 TRILLION left over after you give every house in America solar, would provide 45.3 million $27,000 rebates on the purchase of electric cars. In just a few years we could stop the carbon from most of our electricity generation and transportation by just not purchasing 2,400 F-35 warplanes.
It would also bring about full employment and save the average homeowner thousands of dollars in electricity and fuel costs."

PS - the protests are heating up, even in America. They don't like being "The Land of the Not Free" where their government acts against their wishes so blatantly as this.
