Got up with a range of inspirations in my head.
This came out. This has a couple blog themes all wrapped up in one.
Then, I read the CA ballot measure.
It brings up a lot of questions for me.
I will seek to get them answered.
I am not sure what foods this specifically applies to...
It does not appear to eliminate small amounts of GE ingredients.
Label Genetically engineered Foods Now
There is a rumor flying around the internet that their is a group of six people-- maybe-- who have all the Real Wealth in the world. Those who imagine that this rumor is true may likely never have grown a carrot in fertile soil twelve inches thick.
From time to time I have visited a garden where carrots grow like that. The experience of pulling a carrot from the ground there is tantamount to something sexy. This makes perfect sense. The purpose of food is to help you Plant Your Dream. The Purpose of a carrot--and the purpose of all other whole, pure, natural, fresh food-- is to fertilize your seeds with the life force needed to healthfully reproduce. That my friend is real wealth, and that is sexy.
REAL WEALTH--WHAT IT IS FROM AN ORGANIC BEET'S
POINT OF VIEW
If an organic beet could talk what would it call real wealth? Here are a few of what it would say: 1. Black Soil--thick, fertile, racing with life force and capable of replicating the blueprint of life--that is wealth. Such soil as that is Black Gold. 2. Seeds--to have them--to own some of them: diverse, heirloom, reproducing, seeds. That is Gold. That is to be wealthy. 3. To know you can grow some of your own Food--
that is wealth.
FAST FORWARD TO 2112
The word "Natural" here has become archaic entering 2112. Natural is one of those words that has been usurped by PR. Natural no long means what the giants of the Natural Healing Arts and health food stores intended as they used the word. Today Natural Food can now have little motifications that make these look alike food substances look like foods, and taste like foods, but the question is, are they still foods, and even more relevant, are they Safe to eat?
GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS
The process that interferes with the natural growth process as known for thousands of years is called Genetically Engineering. This is a process that begins in a laboratory, and makes substances altered by Genetically Modified Organisms--GMOs that continue to be Traded as if they were still foods.
From the point of view of the Plant Your Blog, one of many blogs and journals writing on the subject, we have created a Food Emergency through Genetic Engineering.
The world part is that we do not even have choice. We do not know what we are eating. Genetically Engineered "Foods" are not even labeled.
1212 IS THE YEAR TO SHIFT
1212 is the year of the Shift. It is time to Label what is sold in the Supermarket. We have a right to know what we are eating, in spite of our government employees believing and enforcing regulations that prefer foods be not labeled.
It is time to take our Seeds back. It is time to take our seeds off the Shelf. It is time to end our current Food Emergency.
ARE YOU "REGISTERED TO VOTE"?
If you live in California, and you are the voting age, and you have a place you call home, you can register to vote.
If you register to vote, and that means have a current address where you get a ballot, they you are entitled by law to petition our state government to take specific actions in our behalf.
You can be one of a suggested 850,000 fully registered to vote individuals who put this Measure on the Ballot:
LABEL GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOOD

INITIATIVE MEASURE TO BE SUBMITTED DIRECTLY TO THE VOTERS
(11-0099.) GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS. MANDATORY LABELING. INITIATIVE STATUTE. Requires labeling on raw or processed food offered for sale to consumers if made from plants or animals with genetic material changed in specific ways. Prohibits labeling or advertising such food as "natural." Exempts foods that are: certified organic; unintentional produced with genetically engineered material but not genetically engineered themselves; processed with or containing only small amounts of genetically engineered ingredients; adminsitered for treatment of medical conditions; sold for immediate consumption such as in a restaurant; or alcoholic beverages. Summary of estimate by Legislative analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Potential increase in state administrative costs of up to one million dollars annually to monitor compliance with the disclosure requirements specified in the measure. Unknown, but potentially significant, costs for the courts, the Attorney General, and district attorneys due to litigation resulting from possible violations to the provisions of this measure.

What is the list of foods that it would apply to....?
I need to know.
This movement is a baby step toward getting genetically engineered foods out of our food supply. It will at least give us back the word Natural. You will not be able to call a food natural if it has made by genetic engineering. It will however, allow natural foods to contain genetically engineered ingredients.
This ballot measure allows foods to be exempted that are processed with or contain a small amount of genetically engineered ingredients. These do not have to be labeled.
I wonder who wrote this ballot measure.
I would like to know.
These are my first thoughts.
I need to move on to important prep for the NPEW.
