TIME-DATED

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to you because I want to ask you to please join me in gathering signatures for a California ballot initiative that will help us be educated and make better choices for our health and well-being.

Those of us who care about our health and the health of future generations are gathering together to demand the Right to Know when there are Genetically Modified Organisms in our food. It's that simple. And you don't have to be convinced that GMOs are bad for you to be concerned or to sign.

Right now companies are not required to label foods that have Genetically Modified Organisms. These materials have not been tested as safe and have become prevalent in our food supply. According to the Grocery Mfrs' Assn, 80% of packaged foods contain genetically engineered ingredients. As much as 86% of corn in the U.S. is GMO, and corn is fed to our animals, too. Even food labelled "All Natural" can be affected by GMOs. Some such food is even being raised to produce its own pesticides. Studies show that genetically engineering food can create new, unintended toxic substances & increase allergies, cancer risks, & other health problems, esp. for children. There are resources on http://www.labelgmos.org
if you want to check into this stuff.

In Europe Union & China, food is labelled and GMOs are not prevalent as they are in the U.S. and Canada. What do these countries know that we do not? Someone at Monsanto has actually called GMO labelling the "skull and crossbones label".

The goal with this initiative is that California would lead the nation in driving labelling in the U.S.

PLEASE JOIN ME AND VOLUNTEERS TO GET ANY NUMBER OF SIGNATURES YOU CAN GET. Advance polling show that more than 75% of Californians would vote for Mandatory Labeling of Genetically Engineered Foods. It should be very easy for you to help get signatures at your synagogue or church, school, work, neighborhood, or just among your family and friends. You don't have to go outside a store (health food store, Trader Joes, etc.) but you could if you wanted to.

The initiative can be signed by anyone who is a registered California voter. There is a time-limit, and the organizers want people to get trained so that the initiative forms will be done correctly and the initiative will get onto the ballot.

- also a great organization with informative materials

Please let me know what you think! I hope you can help. And please pass along the word to any of your friends or family who would also be interested. Time is of the essence!

Thanks so much!

Lisa
