Dear President Obama and Michelle,

It is time to clearly announce that you recognize that the Organic side of the Sustainability movement has now matured and USDA Organic sector supporters, Organic Trade Association members, Organic Stakeholders everywhere, and Grassroots Activities calling for the Re Occupation of the Vision of the American founding Mothers and fathers want to Secure Our Organic Future.

We are all coming together now, along with your wife who supports an Organic Garden at the White House, to ask that you turn away from bankrupt GMO practices that undrmine the health of our nation.

THe next step is to give us all freedom to choose the foods we want and the right for mothers to decide the foods they want to feed their offspring.

We ask for GMO labeling now.

GIve us the respect to choose what we want.

I realize that you are banking on GMO's being O.K., howeve, this is bankrupt thinking that will not pay off. Turn away, dear president. You once said, "Show me the Movement!" We are the movement of life expressing. We ask you to just us in Occupying the American Dream once again.

Do this, for us, and put your very one FDA house in order now.

I write in support of the Center for Food Safety's Legal Petition to FDA to Require Labeling of Genetically Engineered Foods (Docket No. FDA-2011-P-0723-0001/CP).

Unsuspecting consumers by the tens of millions are being allowed to purchase and consume unlabeled genetically engineered foods, despite a finding by FDA scientists that these foods could pose serious risks and despite the fact that FDA does not do any testing of its own. The patentability of GE foods demonstrates that they are novel, and should be labeled. In fact, at least 22 countries, as well as all of the EU member states, have mandatory labeling laws for GE foods, rendering U.S. policy an outdated and mistaken outlier.

U.S. courts have recognized a fundamental “right-to-know” rooted in the U.S. Constitution and in common law. Whether FDA believes that GE foods are “of the same or equal quality” as their conventional counterparts is irrelevant to the question of whether unlabeled GE foods are misleading. The proper focus is consumers’ expectations and whether they are being deceived. Because consumers do not expect foods to be genetically engineered absent special labeling, their right to know what is in their food is being taken away by FDA’s GE labeling policy.

Additionally, a number of studies over the past decade have revealed that genetically engineered foods can pose serious risks to humans, domesticated animals, wildlife and the environment. Human health effects can include higher risks of toxicity, allergenicity, antibiotic resistance, immune-suppression and cancer. As for environmental impacts, the use of genetic engineering in agriculture has led to uncontrolled transgenic pollution, threatening numerous microbial, plant and animal species with extinction; a dramatic increase in pesticides released into our environment; and the creation of an epidemic of herbicide-resistant “superweeds.” These health and environmental impacts matter to the public and support the requirement that these foods be labeled.

Labeling is essential for me to choose whether or not I want to consume or feed my family risky genetically engineered foods.
