Cara Cadwallader, of the Prosperity Hive, "East Village's Sweet Spot for Whole Being Sustainability"was a highlight for me at the Bright Green Conference Reception held at the University of San Diego at the end of Day One of this very profound not to be missed yearly conference. Other highlights Day One, included a Mayor's Forum between San Diego Mayor Candidates Bob Filner (D), and Nathan Fletcher (R). Dr. Stephen Greenwald, another San Diego Mayor Candidate was also present, but did not speak.

PRESS RELEASE FROM YOUR ENCHANTED GARDENER

Carolyn Chase has the Bright Green Future San DIego Conference set for the Weekend of October 21-22 at the University of San Diego.Register today!
Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener, recently returned from scoring a "triple base hit" on his East Coast Tour September 15-25, 2011, will deliver a message on how to Secure Our Organic Future one on one at the stellar conference.
Among Leslie's messages are:
Supporting 1,000,000 students regaining their confidence that they can grow their own food. Leslie wants to see that many new students, in schools and other programs, joining the USDA People's Garden Initiative. Leslie says the concept, as launched by Sec of Ag Tom Vilsack on Abraham Lincoln's Birthday Feb. 9, 2009, was intended to free our nation through a return to organic growing of food. in this video Sec Tom states that the People's Garden Initiative will be organic. Gardens will have no fertilzers or pesticides.
(See The Full Transcript here).
Leslie will also address other issues that sees needed to Secure Our Organic Future.
High on his list of priorities is close to home....a new project to name and clear stands of Arundo Donax--considered an invasive species--as a valuable community asset to be managed, rather than a weed to be eradicated with Round Up.
The current trend, before I took on the issue was for the Fire Prevention Bureau, following the lead of parks everywhere--even those leaning toward
no herbicides--to bend their own rules and O.K. the use of Round Up to kill Arundo Donax--a popular reed that is now being explored as a fast growiing source of Biofuels.
Arundo Donax is also used in many places to make baskets, thatched roofs, and provide privacy in fences. Making products from Arundo is a creator of jobs, Leslie Points out, and removing it itself, and then shredding it, provides valuable mulch that the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Growing Grounds, near SDSU is now selling as a fundraiser to help defray costs of a massive cleanup now in progress.
The Overgrowth Cleanup is working hand in hand with promising arborist Fletching Morgan, heading up the Enchanted Garden Overgrowth Clean up. The project is also creating jobs and work for the community. One of my ideas is to manage the large stands bordering our own property through giving employment to farmers at the New Roots IRC Community Farm, nearby the Enchanted Garden Growing Grounds. The IRC plot of land was made famous around the world when First Lady Michelle Obama visited there on Tax Day 2009, says Leslie, known as Your Enchanted Gardener on the widely circulated Plant Your Dream Blogs. His Curezone blog alone has more than 3.8 million page views, and his new blog is sponsored by some of the leading
Organic Trade Association and pro GMO labeling advocates in the nation.
The third project on Leslie's agenda will be to address the 1,000,000 expense of the recent San Diego Black Out.
"The Black Out pointed out some very important information that may be worth the cost. During the black out there were long lines at the North Park Farmer's Market, where some of the finest locally grown real food was available both from vendors in food trucks--numbers of them serving local organic produce. The black out was a celebration for many who discovered that new friendships among neighbors who were on a different kind of grid
of conversation and community building during the lights out period. My message is that real food is at your local organic farmers' market, so get in the habit now of regular weekly shopping to support a sustainable livelihood for our remaining local farmers.
Local organic farmers and those making the leap to go organic are the key to a sound local economy, says Your Enchanted Gardener.
