Hi Leslie,
Here’s the info I have on registering a garden. If you have any problems, I suggest you contact Livia.

Our Peoples Garden Database is now open to the public!
In order to add your garden to our database, you will need to follow 3 easy steps.
1) The first step is to submit your application on-line.
2) Second, request an eAuthentication from USDA. This should take about 10 minutes. Instructions on how to do this will be emailed to you once your application is approved.
3) Third, enter your garden in the database and share your story.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is urging people across the Nation to start People’s Gardens in their communities and to register their gardens in the new People’s Garden database. The database is a tool for USDA partners to showcase their People’s Gardens on an interactive map. This past year, thousands of USDA employees and partners gave back to their communities by volunteering their time to participate in the department-wide People’s Garden initiative.
The People’s Garden at USDA Headquarters is now one of 1,241 gardens that have expanded to all 50 states, two U.S. territories and three foreign countries. The surge in the number of gardens can in part be attributed to USDA’s recent partnership with Keep America Beautiful and demonstrates how others can get involved and make a difference.
Secretary Vilsack says, – real and effective change starts small and it starts in our own communities, and through the People’s Garden initiative, people can be engaged in their own towns and neighborhoods to promote access to fresh, healthy food, as well as sustainable practices.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY BEHIND THE NAME?

When President Lincoln founded USDA in 1862, he called it The People's Department. USDA continues to honor his vision for a Department that serves the American people every day and in every way through The People's Garden Initiative.

Consider creating gardens in vacant lots, schools, or churches and become part of the People’s Garden movement. Reach out to USDA employees in your community for their help and expertise or ask them to lend a hand in planting, harvesting, and maintaining a People’s Garden.
