MANY ISSUES INVOLVED HERE

This is a private buying club paying for raw goats milk from goats that belong to them through a leasee agreement with the person raising their goats and milk for them. Regardless of what other crimes she may have committed, we need to look at the crimes committed here by the fDA and other agents involved.

THE MEMBERS OF THIS PRIVATE CLUB SIGN AN AGREEMENT THAT
INCLUDES

I reaffirm that the food I acquire through this Club is not subject to government regulation because I own the food on the farm and am not engaging in commerce.

9.4 MILLION DRINK RAW MILK
42 GOT SICK
REPORT SAYS

The raid follows a recent report by retired pathologist Ted Beals, MD, based on Centers for Disease Control numbers, which revealed that an estimated 9.4 million people drink raw milk in the US, while 42 get sick each year from contaminated product. This amounts to six-millionths of a percent who become sick from raw milk.

16% IN FOODBORNE ILLNESSES EACH YEAR
BUT FDA IS GONG AFTER LITTLE FARMERS

Contrast that with the whopping 16% in foodborne illnesses each year in the U.S., according to CDC figures. Yet, the FDA is not shutting down food production at factory farms or food processors where contamination originates. Nor does it steal its products and computers. For example, Jack DeCoster continues to operate sick egg factories despite decades of illness, employee abuse, and food safety violations.

Police Raid Rawesome Foods, Dump Raw Milk

P
Rawesome Foods in Venice, CA was raided for selling raw milk
A multi-agency SWAT team hit Venice, CA , Rawesome Foods arresting three people and dumping $10,000 worth of raw milk:

The owner of a Venice health food market and two other people were arrested on charges related to the allegedly unlawful production and sale of unpasteurized dairy products, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.

The arrests of James Cecil Stewart, Sharon Ann Palmer and Eugenie Bloch on Wednesday marked the latest effort in a government crackdown on the sale of so-called raw dairy products.

[...]

While the raid was taking place in Venice, another was occurring at Palmer’s Healthy Family Farms in Ventura County. There, California agriculture officials said, the farm owner’s milk processing plant had not met standards to obtain a license to sell raw milk or raw milk products. Shortly after the raid, Palmer was back in business.

Demand for all manner of raw foods has been growing, spurred by heightened interest in locally produced, unprocessed products.

But government regulators contend such products can be dangerous; there is scientific evidence linking disease outbreaks to raw milk. The milk can transmit bacteria, which can result in diarrhea, dangerously high fevers and in some cases death.

Alcohol has also been linked with deaths, even though it’s legal. We don’t bust down the doors of breweries with SWAT teams or go raid the offices of cigarette manufacturers. Why we need a SWAT team, guns drawn, to make arrests of people selling milk is just beyond me. More as this unfolds.

Update. It looks like it may not have been a SWAT team after all, though at this point it’s hard to say. According to the LA Times

With no warning one weekday morning, investigators entered an organic grocery with a search warrant and ordered the hemp-clad workers to put down their buckets of mashed coconut cream and to step away from the nuts.

Then, guns drawn, four officers fanned out across Rawesome Foods in Venice. Skirting past the arugula and peering under crates of zucchini, they found the raid’s target inside a walk-in refrigerator: unmarked jugs of raw milk.

The Huffington Post describes the police as “federal agents”. The LA Weekly makes no mention of a SWAT team either.

Rawesome Raid: Federal Agents Arrest Owner, Dump Food
First Posted: 8/3/11 03:49 PM ET Updated: 8/3/11 07:40 PM ET

This page will continue to be updated as the story develops.

Rawesome foods, a private market in Venice California, has been raided a second time by federal agents. Initial reports from NaturalNews.com reveal that the owner, James Stewart, has been arrested and is being held on $123,000 bail.

Evan Kleiman, KCRW's "Good Food" producer, confirms that Stewart has been booked for conspiracy to commit a crime, and that he is not allowed to post a bond to bail himself out of jail.

Sharon Ann Palmer and Eugenie Victoria Bloch of Healthy Family Farms, LCC, were also arrested along with Stewart, reports South Pasadena Patch. The farm and its owner, Palmer, are charged with producing milk without a license or permit since 2007. Healthy Family Farms is a regular vendor at community farmers markets, notes South Pasadena Patch.

The thirteen count complaint against the group stems from a yearlong sting operation, according to KTLA. KTLA notes that undercover investigators would make purchases of raw milk, cheese, yogurt, and kefir at Rawesome, even though the market allegedly did not have the proper permits to be selling unpasteurized dairy products.

During the raid, Stefani Perales (@lovingthenow) tweeted, "Raid is still going on :( They are dumping good Raw Food to waste!"

Objections to the raid are already mounting. Rawesome supporters organized a protest at the store site today. Others encouraged people to make their voices heard by calling the California Dept of Food & Agriculture.
