OCA, a Rockefeller/merck funded Front? Is this True... I went searching for the origins of the story that said Whole Foods Market can't keep GMO's out of its food, and I found this interest comment I want to check out.

this would be a legitimate protest had they picked a dominick's or jewel osco. but the largest distributor of organic foods in the country? whose ceo doesn't even pay himself from the store's income? a store that started the non-gmo project? this is not surprising coming from the oca, a rockefeller/merck funded front used to give a bad reputation to the distributors of organic foods who supply the most organic food.
whole foods is on the nasdaq, so it's a little hard to get every one of their customers nationwide to buy all organics(organics contain no gmo's). artificial scarcity leads to higher prices in this case, and the poor have been victimized, but a lot of the time the poor at least still want to support a store selling organics to those who can afford them, so they shop at whole foods, which has banned high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors and flavorings from their store. so, the poor know they can at least get that while supporting a legitimate organic foods distributor that is probably our best bet at changing the path of american agriculture. we need something at least as big as whole foods to counter the agricultural and nutritional devastation of genetic engineering and the bio tech industry.

THIS IS THE RESPONSE FROM OCA

http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_22450.cfm

It's too bad some of our would-be allies apparently can't tell the difference between friends and enemies.

http://www.activistpost.com/2011/01/food-freedom-betrayal...

These types of articles - filled with lies - are not only are destructive, but serve to discredit genuine researchers and Movements who work hard to expose real conspiracies like the 9/11 coverup or electronic voter machine theft.

OCA did get several grants in the past from the John Merck Foundation to fight GMOs, but this Foundation is entirely separate from the Merck corporation, whom we've always attacked. The same goes for the Tides Foundation and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, who are entirely separate from Rockefeller corporate interests and the Rockefeller Foundation. We have never taken money from a large publicly traded corporation or a corporate affiliated Foundation, and we never will. I know several of the younger generation Rockefeller progressives/radicals - the ones who have personally funded us or directed their money through Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, and they share the same political and ethical views as the OCA. Just because someone's grandfather, or even father or mother, was a robber baron or baroness, does not mean that their children cannot become progressives or even revolutionaries. Most of us in the USA are direct descendants of Europeans who massacred Native Americans and enslaved Black people.

POINT WELL TAKEN

David Rockefeller for example....

He is one of the "good guys" as
far as I can see.

MY THOUGHTS
YOUR ENCHANTED GARDENER

before slamming whole foods market
too heavily, watch this video
made at the gmo political challenge
snd beyond session at the natural product
expo west. march 11

in this video, walt robb of whole foods market
was the panel leader and he is calling for action.

i am sorry that more of this session is not online.

it was at this gmo challenge session,
where the organic stakeholders called for united action
calling we all needed to come together.

it was in the face of this possible coming together
and achieving our tipping point in favor of ge labeling
and in support of organic alfalfa, that the seeds
of divisiveness were further planted.

i am not convinced that the recent demeaning of the ota
and the whole foods bashing did not come out of those
in that room who do not want ota or whole foods to
be a force in non gmo labeling.

i sense much misinformation and disinformation
at play here.

here is the original story i was looking at
at the oca protest at whole foods chicaco

http://www.chicagotribune.com/health/ct-met-gmo-food-labeling--20110524,0,584...

organic foods, by definition, can't knowingly contain genetically modified organisms, known as gmos. but genetically modified corn, soy and other crops have become such common ingredients in processed foods that even one of the nation's top organic food retailers says it hasn't been able to avoid stocking some products that contain them.

monica eng: a q&a on gmos

"no one would guess that there are genetically engineered foods right here in whole foods," said alexis baden-mayer, political director of the organic consumers association, which organized the protest. the activists dramatically trashed a battery of well-known health food brands outside the store, including tofutti, kashi and boca burgers.

i do not see a date on this:

genetically engineered foods

our goal at whole foods market is to provide informed consumer choice with regard to genetically engineered ingredients (also known as gmos or genetically modified organisms). we do this through our support of organic agriculture along with our commitment to source our 365 everyday value and whole foods market brand products to avoid gmos.

when developing our store brand products, we work with our manufacturers to source non-genetically engineered ingredients. if those ingredients are not commercially available, we encourage producers to work to meet this goal.

beginning in july 2009, we established a partnership with the non-gmo project to verify and label our store brand food products using the nation’s first authoritative standard.

the non-gmo project is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping consumers make informed choices and to ensuring sustained availability of non-gmo options. whole foods market is pleased to be a founding member of the group, which is a collaboration of manufacturers, retailers, processors, distributors, farmers, seed breeders and consumers. together we have established a working standard and have developed north america’s first independent third-party product verification program, which ensures that food production follows rigorous best practices for gmo avoidance.

non-gmo project verified product lists

whole foods market, as a part of its mission to offer food in its most natural state, has created a non-gmo project verified product shopping list. developed in partnership with the non-gmo project, a non-profit organization dedicated to allowing consumers to make informed choices and to ensuring sustained availability of non-gmo options, this shopping list highlights products that have been reviewed and verified by an independent third party to ensure that food production follows rigorous best practices for gmo avoidance.

genetically modified organisms (gmos), also known as genetically engineered organisms, are plants or animals where portions of the dna from one organism are introduced into and made a part of the dna of another. there are a number of gmo crops currently grown in the u.s., including corn, soy, cotton, sugar beets and canola. gmo crops grown today may be insect-resistant (they grow their own insecticides) or herbicide-resistant (they withstand spraying by commercial herbicides). in 30 countries around the world, including australia, japan and all of the nations in the european union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production of gmos.

natural news correction
about gmo's in whole foods market

http://www.naturalnews.com/032628_whole_foods_gmos.html

(correction note: the original title of this article has been altered to better reflect the accuracy of this story. as a clarification, whole foods does take steps to avoid gmo ingredients, but due to the massive use of genetically engineered ingredients in the food supply, it is currently impossible to avoid gmos in conventional or "natural" products. as a result, many food products sold at whole foods do, in fact, contain genetically engineered ingredients, even when whole foods would prefer they didn't.)

despite its efforts, even whole foods cannot keep gmos out of the products it sells (correction)

the problem, you see, is that whole foods does not do a “whole” lot to encourage and demand gmo labeling. one would think that a business model such as whole foods would be leading the fight. but… by paying lip-service to the organic-minded consumer and saying, “we just can’t do anything… we’re at monsanto’s mercy, woe is us! until the federal govt does something… we have to stock gmos,” while doing little (mediocre, at best) at lobbying for health and food liberty, they can appear to be on the consumer’s side while still sleeping with the biotech terrorists and staying in their good fortune, reaping the financial benefits of “organic foods” that really aren’t.

i recommend checking out the non-gmo project. i will say, that whole foods is a participating retailer with the project, but with such a namesake and deep pockets, i would expect them to be at the forefront of this gmo labeling battle and they clearly are not. such is the free market. c’est le vie, eh?

MIKE ADAMS SPEAKS IN FAVOR OF
WHOLE FOODS IN THIS OCTOBER 2010
PIECE ON NATURAL NEWS

http://www.NaturalNews.com/030182_Whole_Foods_Market_stores.html

Setting the trends in health food retailing

Aside from being the No. 1 retail choice of practically every natural product company in the natural health space, Whole Foods is also a real trendsetter. For example, they have partnered with the Non-GMO project (www.NonGMOproject.org) to carry the "Project Verified" label on as many of their products as possible (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/val...).

This is a very big deal given how important the GMO issue has become to consumers. This alone might soon become the No. 1 reason shoppers choose Whole Foods over other stores -- because they can avoid GMOs at Whole Foods!

Just as with other issues, when Whole Foods leads the way on issues like GMOs, other conventional stores are forced to follow. It won't be long before the corporate executives at Safeway, Kroger and Wal-Mart start figuring out that informed shoppers won't buy foods unless the GMO question is answered on the label. And this, in turn, will lead to labeling and policy reforms at these conventional retailers that once again never would have happened if not for Whole Foods leadership on the issue.

This is one of the huge, hidden benefits of Whole Foods Markets -- they pull the entire grocery industry in the direction of "natural." And frankly, Whole Foods rarely gets credit for this. People sometimes complain about Whole Foods prices, but they often forget that if it wasn't for Whole Foods, many of the natural trends shaping the industry today (in our favor) wouldn't have happened at all! And many of the natural products we enjoy today might not be available at any price!
