My neighbor sent in a general contractor,
Fernando Chavez,
to cut some old dead branches off a very high palm tree
on their side on their property that borders ours.

I gave them permission to come on on side of the adjoining
property.

Fernando Chavez does residential and
commercial projects, helped me clear a pile of brush at the base
of the tree on our side.

Numbers of branches fell on our side of the palm
but the pile that he cleared was not part of his job.

He gave about 20 or more minutes of his time.

I stood watching as he generously removed
the branches that were not part of today's work,
and then he took on pulling out some of the palm
leaves that were intermixed with our cane.

If we were to attempt to clear that pile
on our own brush it would take a full day or two
of hours.

OVERGROWTH HERE

I am shocked at the immensity of the overgrowth
on this property.

It makes me think twice about how much
I have taken on holding on to what Pius, a housemate calls a jungle
in a positive way.

I feel so very puny right now
comparing myself to this overgrowth
of what has been created from some innocent
idea to allow a palm tree to be planted.
