TENDER REPARATION
TO HOLY DRUM

I witnessed to the tenderest of
emotion....
I want to stop
in the rush of worlds colliding
inside me
to bear witness...
to a mother and a daughter
caught between worlds as well
between the world of ritual
and the world of performance.
I saw something
so tender, so true,
a moment of purity,
I witnessed
a mother preparing her
daughter, the putting
on of feathers,
the daughter between worlds
two...something tribal...
something real...
a moment of preparation
a sound that would come up
from the throat.
a hand that would beat a drum.
