I am concerned about the need now to stabilize our home
and the possible threat of losing our home if we do not
take action to work together to get new housemates.
I am speaking about our planetary home.
I am also speaking about the threat of losing
this particular residence, the home where we and many others have
lived since the mid 70's. There is a Moment of Awakening
and a pitching in now to work together
to save this residence.
To save this residence may ask us to do some things
that can also help us save our larger home the earth.
OUR A VERY PRACTICAL LEVEL
On a very practical level, at our home for many years, we kept our
financial balance through renting out the structure called
the Dome.
The structure brought in $400.00 a month, plus
!2 hours of work, the equivalent of $520.00.
With the moving on of the last resident, we stopped
renting this structure. The plan was to bring it into alignment
with its intent, to turn it into a studio that would be more
in sync with city codes as well at the potential to be a creative
site on our land where people in the house could get away
from the main house, or where others from outside might
find a place to create projects, or do temporary retreats.
Six months, later, the dilapidated structure is on its way
to being restored thanks to an out lay of personal expense
and profound investment of hours.
There are bills that deserve to be paid for
the work that has been done.
The structure, currently, continues to be a financial drain
on the property. There is still an outlay of $400.00 in the budget
per month. There is some understanding that
the utilities will be paid each month, but there is still
a financial deficit.
In February, the budget also experienced another shock.
I took at the word of an temporary guest that she would
give the value of expense to cover a vacant space.
The agreement turned into a loan of more than $400.00.
No money was forthcoming at this time.
That was about $800.00 deficit in the budget for February.
Looking together toward March, we have the opportunity now
to come together as a community to improve one of our rooms
for rental. We need to put more value into the room.
We also need more energy as a group to pull together our community
focus to help sustain the budget through making sure that
this room is rented in the range of $580.00 or higher. This would
increase our budget income by $50.00. The room would rent
for $460.00 with 12 hours labor trade.
There is likely a current guest, a former housemate, who will
rent the room. However, a financial negotiation needs to be completed.
Another housemate suggests that the room could be rented
at an even higher rate, $600.00 plus 12 hours of hours of work.
This would bring in $200.00 toward making up the deficit.
LITTLE ROOM AVAILABILITY
We will also have the Little Room available for renting.
This can rent for $425.00 with the 12 hour trade. The full amount
would be $545.00 based on the person not wanting to do the
work trade.
This also would bring in an addition $50.00 toward the deficit.
I am placing the add for The Little Room this morning
on Craigslist.
However, we as a community need to come together
to paint the Middle Room now, as I call the room that is
available for $580.00.
We need to spiritually work together to make sure
both spaces have a person who wants to live here with us,
as well as contribute not only financially, but toward
recognizing the extreme value we each can receive
from living on this very special land that allows us
to connect in community with each other and the earth.
It is important that we recognize the inherent value
in the land as a place of healing. This healing comes
as we garden here, and interact with the land and open space.
It is the garden, as well as the potential to continue to live
together here, that calls out to us now.
If we pull together in a spirit of positive energy now,
and begin to share the responsibility to managing our shared
land and home, we can pass through the budget crisis.
We have the potential of being here for years into the future
as a home on a very shaky earth that deeply needs
stable places such as ours where people demonstrate
going through what it takes to learn to live together.
If we act now, we can lessen the stress on our home,
but financially and communally.
If we do not work together now to ensure that our vacancies
are filled, we will likely be out of money with a number of months.
The potential loss of income for March needed to be
addressed now.
We only have so many months to remedy this condition
in all means possible.
