Perhaps we need a CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE WASHINGTON OR REAL FOOD

I oppose including the fake "food safety" (actually "food control") bill, S.510 or any of its language in the Continuing Resolution or any other Bill before Congress.

Senator McConnell's one page Continuing Resolution, so long as it does not include any new food control program, is not an unreasonable step for Congress to take at this time.

I want the new Congress to find ways and means to protect our local and natural food production and distribution, as well as our natural health remedies, from Federal FDA control.

Divest the FDA of any authority over our food and supplements!

Health and Food Freedom for food safety is an important issue to me, and to many millions of Americans, and I will remember your votes!

NEWS RELEASE
BREAKING NEWS - THE FOOD SAFETY BILL DIES WITH THE SPENDING BILL
December 16, 2010

The Senate was taking up the House Omnibus Spending bill for 2011 (H.R.3082); but because the Republicans were insisting that the Senate clerks read the entire 1,924-page, $1.4 trillion spending bill paragraph by paragraph – which would have taken 50 hours to read out loud – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has just decided late today to yank the bill (including S.510 within it). In its place, the Senate may actually adopt Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) idea of passing a one-page spending bill as a temporary, two-month stop-gap.
However, it is too early to celebrate, so keep the pressure on to make sure that S.510, the so-called Food Safety bill, is not included in any substitute spending bill. The Congressional leadership is working on a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the Federal government at this year's level. However, even though S.510 is also dead as amendment to the Omnibus bill, it is not yet known whether it will be added to the to-be-completed CR.
Keep in mind that this will have to be passed by the House of Representatives as well. So, process wise, it could well be a round of "ping-pong" with the CR. The clock is ticking as this “lame duck” session comes to an end and still has many matters yet to deal with.
So, while we know that S.510 has been withdrawn along with the Omnibus bill, it is not clear if it is completely dead. Our NHF lobbyist’s instinct says that it is dead for this Congress. Let’s hope he is correct.
Stay alert and stay tuned to new developments. S.510 may yet stay dead in its fresh grave, a death it fully deserves.

Senate Democrats give up on earmark-laden spending bill

Instead, a slimmed-down resolution that would fund the government mostly at current levels will come before the Senate, and Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said it will pass by Saturday.

Reid said the Senate would then return to three other Democratic priorities: a repeal of the prohibition on gays serving openly in the military, a law that would benefit children of illegal immigrants and a nuclear arms treaty with Russia.

The majority leader's surrender on the spending bill marked a final rebuke for this Congress to the old-school system of funding the government, in which the barons of the Appropriations Committee decided which states would receive tens of millions of dollars each year.

McConnell, a member of the appropriations panel, had long championed his own earmarks to the Bluegrass State until last month. But he mounted a furious, and ultimately successful, effort to reject the omnibus legislation, persuading up to nine Republicans who had considered supporting the bill to turn against it.

"In the last 24 hours they've walked away from me," Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday night. The turnabout left the Senate leader short of the 60 votes he would need to overcome a filibuster.

Before McConnell had locked down all 42 Republicans, he was threatening to force the reading of the 1,924-page bill as a delaying tactic.

He blamed Democrats for not bringing any of the 12 spending bills for fiscal 2011 to the floor. Instead, they dropped the legislation, which compiled all the bills - none of which Congress passed this year - on senators' desks on Tuesday.

"The full Senate didn't do its job, and this is precisely the kind of thing the American people have gotten tired of," he said.

Almost every Senate Republican had some favor in the bill, but as voter angst about runaway deficits grew before the midterm elections, Republicans turned against the earmark practice.

McConnell requested $112 million worth of earmarks in the legislation, according to estimates from the nonprofit group Taxpayers for Common Sense. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) would have been the single largest beneficiary of the bill, with more than $500 million in co-sponsored earmarks, but he also walked away from it.

McCain: Filibuster omnibus, even if it prompts government shutdown
By Michael O'Brien - 12/16/10 07:23 PM ET

We are STEALING from future generations with this legislation. We're taking our kids' and grandkids' credit cards, without their permission, and spending the money on ourselves, leaving them with a far lower standard of living when they grow up. It's intergeneration al theft and it has got to stop. We're going to be known as the worst generation, a name we deserve.

....sweeps away months of bipartisan work by the Senate Appropriations Committee which had crafted the $1.1 trillion bill to meet spending targets embraced by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R—Ky.) himself prior to the elections.

Sen. Robert Bennett (R—Utah), an old McConnell friend, worked actively to round up as many as nine potential Republican votes for the compromise, but these numbers rapidly evaporated amid personal attacks and the uproar this week over spending earmarks in the package.

McConnell, embarrassed by reports on his own earmarks in the omnibus, went to the Senate floor Thursday to propose a one page, “clean” two month extension of the current stop gap funding resolution that has kept the government funded since Oct. 1. And as if caught with their hands in the cookie jar, he and other top Republicans vowed to do everything in their powers to kill the omnibus to square themselves with their tea party backers.

CAN WE RUN THE CLOCK OUT?
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY LAST 48 hours
for end run on #S-510.

I will be watching to see if the attempt to
slip #S-510 in through the one page Continuing Resolution.

Lame Duck session is winding down, what is next for America? We’ve been reading a lot on Tea Party Nation, and here’s a portion of one Judson Phillips article about what we can expect:
This week, time is on our side. Like the football team trying to stop a last minute drive, all we have to do is slow them down until time runs out. Time should run out this Friday.
After we celebrate the end of this lame duck Congress, we should take time to remember a few things. If we have learned anything over the last two years, we should have learned, elections matter. This is a lesson we need to remind our friends and our neighbors. If we had a real conservative running in 2008, Obama would not be President. Instead, the 2008 election was a battle between two liberals. The American people really did not have a choice.
Another lesson we need to take from this is the need to prepare and be involved in the political system. The people who will win elections in 2012 are running right now. We need to find good candidates and get them into the game now. We also need to be working to take over political organizations, in particular the taking over the Republican Party. We need to get a good solid conservative, like Saul Anuzis in as the Chairman of the RNC and at the state and local level we need to start moving the RINOs out and put good, solid conservatives in their place. The changes will not take place over night and we will not win all of them. But we need to keep pushing.
As we look for leaders for the future, we need to find leaders with one commitment. We need leaders committed to the destruction of liberalism. When Ronald Reagan went into the White House, he was committed to destroying Soviet Communism. Before Reagan, in some area, it was considered fashionable to be a “communist.” After Reagan, only the mentally ill would call themselves communists. We need leaders who are committed to stopping and destroying the progressive agenda. After the 2012 elections, we must make certain liberals are never in a position of power again.
Judson Phillips calls this period “Running The Clock Out”. What do you think? What role will you play in the new year and as we head toward 2012? Moore TEA Citizens, let’s be ON OUR WAY once again!

Go ahead Find a Way to Put #S-510 Food Safety in the CR one page so we can give the FDA More Regulator power. (I am being sarcastic...) Great find here:
This is a pitch to allow for antibiotics use in cows that is o.k.ed by the FDA.
There are a ton of other products supported by big industry where the FDA says yes. The FDA needs to be headed by a new regieme and way of thinking before we give them more power over Food Safety Moderization.
