Educate Our Senators Before They Vote

Your Enchanted Gardener
With Keep The Beet Media Star
The World’s First Talking Beet Plant
I confess I talk to plants and plants talk to me. According to my favorite plant who calls herself Keep The Beet Media Star, the World’s First Talking Beet Plant, education across party lines needs to happen right now beyond Republican or Democrat. It comes down to who and who does not have “The Beet Gene.”
Michelle Obama, my favorite all time First Lady, said that both her and her bedmate do not have the beet gene. You either love or hate beets, she said. You either have the beet gene or you do not. I and my beet admire her projects to help create the While House Organic Garden. I await an invite
to visit and consult there. We back wholehearted "Let's Move!," the national initiative to improve Kids healththat borders on asking them to eat well as well as exercise. The firstlady kicked off "Let's Move!" down the street from my home where 90 plots are farmed by people whose only tongue is the language of plants.
I also have an RX for the White House. According to Keep The Beet, my talking plant, anyone who spends time imbibing GMO’s, during October, national GMO Free Month, can lose their beet gene. To bring out the beet gene, join the ranks of home gardeners and small farmers through growing one beet in a pot. One Pot + One Beet = You’re a Gardener.
Keep The Beet’s current project is educating our Senators before they vote on upcoming Food Safety bills S.510-S 3767, or any combination thereof of these bills that Senators imagine will decontaminate our massively ill Food Safety system.
Keep the Beet sides with Republican doctor M.D. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who smelled rotten eggs when s.510 came up in September. He stood strong, a David against Goliath. Goliath is a system of Food Rules, coming out of the USDA Codex Alimentarius Commission. The local US Codex office aims to bring our nation into harmonization with the International Codex Food Rules. Arbitrary deadlines exist to come into Codex alignment. The beet tells me this is part of the pressure to get Food Safety legislation
down our throats asap. Codex rules favor centralization of our food supply and lessening the dosages of allowable natural supplements, thereby reversing the DSHEA agreements of the 90’s. These agreements were hard fought and gave us health freedom to use the supplements we have today. This law from 1994 asks truth in labeling for natural supplements. However, no labeling is needed for GMO content in our foods. Go Figure.
Michael Pollan in his “Food Rules” favors locally grown food. USDA Codex imagines that conventional, organic, and GMO AG can exist side by side. Natural law says no. GMO Ag is an evolutionary Shift that takes away the freedom to grow organically. It contaminates our seed supply, making the Organic Standards set by the USDA defunct. This plays into the hands of those who want our last remaining heirloom seeds buried in the Doomsday Vault in Greenland.
Michael R. Taylor, our food Czar, is the point person for Codex. He paved the way in the 90’s for GMO’s and backs no labeling of them. He hand feeds the President’s our food safety policy.
Last July, when Taylor spoke before the Kucinich food committee, he said that he aimed to bring the FDA into harmonization with the Codex. HR 2749, part one of the food safety law passed the House in spite of massive online protest. When the bill came to the floor it was pushed back, only to return, presumably read and altered the next day. Now we face s.510 and s.3767, or versions thereof. Do our senators understand the bill or the concerns of small local organic and family farmers who are an endangered species in America?
According to Pollan and non GMO corn lovers, including Keep The Beet, all President Obama wants before coming to the sustainable ag table, is for us to show him the movement. Government can no longer be considered a pro GMO on the couch spectator sport. This is the time to wave the banner for real food through dusting off are beet genes through putting on our garden blue jeans.
Let’s educate our senators. Many of them are imbibing too many on the run meals served by the GMO lobby to think clearly. A new kind of Farm Bill will favor local and healthy food beyond organic for our kids.
At a recent Organic Center banquet at the Natural Product Expo West in 2009, it was announced that truckloads of organic food were delivered to the White House. Some elements in the USDA, the Kathleen Merrigan branch, may have had a hand in dumping truckloads of organic compost in the USDA garden last year. Keep The Beet prefers this USDA direction that some call Know Your Farmer. Know Your Food.
Now is the time to create the movement to meet the President’s requirement. He will back the world to grow organic food fit for human consumption if enough of us participate in this movement. It is time for Uncle Sam to marry “Auntie GMO.” I want to see massive images of real food on the internet directing our Senators to view real food. Let the food speak for itself, says Keep The Beet. .” I want to see a massive picnic on the Capitol lawn before our Senators vote on Food Safety. It is time for our Senators to wake up the beet gene inside them. Hear the beat, please. Lessen the song and dance with corporate food. A national conversation of food safety has begun. We the movement are asking you to join us.

Pesticide use data come from annual surveys done by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)....HT [herbicide tolerant] crops have increased herbicide use by a total of 382.6 million pounds over 13 years. HT soybeans increased herbicide use by 351 pounds (about 0.55 pound per acre), accounting for 92% of the total increase in herbicide use across the three HT crops....Recently herbicide use on GE acres has veered sharply upward. Crop years 2007 and 2008 accounted for 46% of the increase in herbicide use over 13 years across the three HT crops.
