Another two have appeared! (Coins, I mean...) by Deborah Lockett .....

Today I took Andrew to a different beach than usual, and I invited Grandad and Nanna to come along...

Date:   9/4/2010 2:16:52 PM ( 14 y ago)

When we got to the beach (on our bike with Andrew in his child seat), we headed for the only shady area, underneath the pier.

It turned out we were in for a treat, because there in the shade we found a family group playing traditional Canarian songs on two traditional Canarian instruments. They continued playing and singing for several hours as Andrew played with the family's 6-year-old daughter in the aquamarine waters under the pier, the waves calmed by a supporting stone wall in the sea.

More children arrived with their families and swam near the water's edge, while a youth took a few of the children at a time for a tour of the bay in his magenta pink kayak.

When Andrew was back in his bike seat and we were about to head for home, his Mum rode up on her bike to accompany us to her boyfriend's home where she lives. The timing was co-incidental as we hadn't agreed a time to meet.

After saying good-bye to Andrew and Valentina, I headed uphill for home. On the way I asked Grandad and Nanna whether they had enjoyed their day on the new beach; what they thought of it; and whether they'd like to go again.

200 metres farther along the route, my front tyre ran over a dark-coloured one-cent coin in a little pit in the road.

As I held the coin in the palm of my hand the message that came with it from Grandad and Nanna was, "YES!" -- they had enjoyed their day on the beach.

25 metres farther up the road, I stopped again to pick up 4 small disposable batteries lying in the street, so as to take them later to the battery recycling bin.

25 metres farther still up the road, I spotted a shiny one-euro coin lying in the gutter behind the back wheel of a parked car. Was this also a message from Grandad and Nanna, I wondered, and what did the message say? Nothing came to me so maybe the coin was just for good measure!

Will be back to report on my next find(s)...

All the best - Deborah
