When Gloria Estefan implored us to "Turn the Beat Around," she probably didn’t know that the position of the beat…or beet…is of little consequence when planting the fine vegetable -- as long as it's not upside down.
According to Leslie Goldman, a San Diego-based activist passionate about healthy living through the art of drawing closer to the Earth, the beet is one of the easiest vegetables to grow. He spreads the word about this concept through Keep the Beet Media Star – a mascot of sorts that has drawn attention from locals, diplomats and celebrities like model Ashley Van Dyke and actor Ed Begley Jr., known for his dedication to the environment. Keep the Beet and Goldman’s message is traveling so widely that they earned a piece of cyberspace last year on The Huffington Post, continually one of the highest-ranked political websites on the Net.
I am being encouraged by
Keep The Beet Media Star
The World's First Talking Beet Plant,
a hero of rooting for more
Whole Being in the World.
This is Keep The Beet's perspective.
We need to turn the beat around.
We have lost our natural rhythm.
Through growing simple food,
beginning with a beet in a pot,
a very easy vegetable to grow,
we can reconnect with the beat of nature.
Keep The Beet. Plant it. Root it.
Root Your Dream at the same time.
You will reconnect inside.
You will mend the Crack between
your Soul and Body in the world.
To be a Whole Being in the world
is essential now.
SO...Keep The Beet... wants me to do a revision
of A WHOLE BEING SURVIVAL GUIDE
on this the 40th Anniversary of the

The flower in my profile photo here bloomed while I was reading "After The Opening," a poem that appears in the "Whole Being Survival Guide." The flower opened in front of 400 people. I was on stage for 15 mnutes or so. It blooms one day a year, or so.
That is the energy of the Whole Being Weekend. You can read
some of my Whole Being Poetry here.
FROM AFTER THE OPENING
by Leslie
1
Touched by the meaning of bodies,
the pure meaning of bodies,
expressing the depths of what is open and alive,
I cannot leave for home, because I am home.
A part of me remains forever in whole being time.
The sane ones are the ones
who come once and never come back.
They know their limits.
They are sane and reasonable.
Maybe a little bit of the earth dies
because people are too sane.
The insane ones are those who go home,
feel their feelings, and return to whole being time.
Pain can come from touching what is real.
Pain can come when my eyes open
to something natural and innocent.
Pain can come even after my body finds trust
in many shapes and sizes of arms,
and I find safety in the dark.
Pain can come when my heart hurts
because I know know
I am not a drought resistant plant.
I am not a desert flower
who can open to could bursts,
shine in full beauty,
and then resign to drought again.
Such drought at least warrants tears.
