Got Milk? Food Safety Modernization Act S-510 issues by YourEnchantedGardener .....

Got Milk? Food Safety Modernization Act s-510 has me looking at some of the issues around Milk today. This was inspired by RAW MILK: THE WHOLE TRUTH by Chef Jem, my housemate, and blogger on Curezone.

GOT MILK?

I am putting some time
nto the questions
around Milk.

There are many points of view on
this subject.

This was inspired by wanting
to see Chef Jem, my housemate
here at the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community
Growing Grounds,
get the word out about his DVD
RAW MILK: THE WHOLE TRUTH.

RGHT NOW,
There is a pressure to increase the power
of The FDA down to the farm level.
Passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act
S-510 will ensure this.

The relationship of the FDA and where it stands
regarding milk needs to be more strongly in the public
awareness.

included here
are a couple links of interest...
about recent raids by the FDA
on Food buying clubs
http://curezone.com/blogs/fm.asp?i=1677296

This may have something to do
with a desire to shut down raw dairy.

Michael R Taylor, our current Food Czar,
played a role in the addition of
milk hormones to milk that are now
showing themselves as very dangerous.

See Robbins piece below.

Are increasing FDA powers
a good idea? Do they really understand
health? Where are their alliances?
Where is the Food Safety Moderization Act
wanting to take us?

ON WITH THE DIALOGUE....

I thought perhaps I might invite some of
the key players to participate as well
as to co-sponsor this issue as part of our
Dialogue on Science,
Ethics, and Food here on the Plant Your Dream Blog.

THE HISTORY OF THE DIALOGUE ON SCIENCE
ETHICS, AND FOOD

Earlier in the year,
Keep The Media Media Star,
The World's First Talking Beet Plant
encouraged me to reach out to
Dr. William Fraley, the father of
Biotech Ag in America. He
was speaking down at the
AAAS international 176th meeting
of the most predigious Science Organization
in America, if not among the most highly
respected in the world.

It was there that the idea for the
Dialogue on Science, Ethics and Food
was born. It is based on the inspiration
of DOSER, an committee of the AAAS.
FOFER Stands of Dialogue on Science,
Ethics, and Religion.

It was clear that the Biotech position
has the inside track in Washington,
Funds are earmarked to guide us
toward a strong Technological future
based on valuing Biotechnology.

We feel that it is important to
help our children get computer literate
at any early age, etc. so they can
keep up with The Human Race,
I had the feeling.

However, there are other forces
in the White House, that I understand
like to eat organic foods.

The desire to live healthfully
and look out for your own children
does make interesting bedfellows,
or bed mates so to speak.

MICHELLE OBAMA IS THE RAGE

Michelle Obama is the rage overseas
with White House Organic Garden.
When the couple who live in the White House
went to Russia there was more interest
in the organic garden than in many other
Obama activities.

ON WITH THIS FANTASY DIALOGUE

In this For Real
and Fantasy Dialogue on this
Plant Your Dream Blog,
among the starring contributors
today are....
JOHN ROBBINS,
BILL MARLER,
noted attorney and
advocate for passage of the upcoming
Food Safety Modernization Act s-510;
MICHAEL R. TAYLOR,
our food Czar who has worked for the FDA
and Monsanto Company at different times
in his life. Michael R. Taylor was
responsible for bringing milk hormones
into kitchens and the lives of babies around the world.

Also on our fantasy Panel here,
we feature Mark McAfee, friend of
raw pasture fed milk cows everywhere.
Mark is head of Organic Pastures,
a heading company that sells organic milk.

Also among our contributors here,
We are offering commentaries from
Keep The Beet Media Star,
The World's First Talking Beet Plant,
A Factory Farmed Cow fed on grain fed
by-products; as well as
another of our guest bloggers here,
Daisy Mae, an organic pasture fed cow
who lives presumably among
the McAfee herd.

We are not sure of her credentials as a blogger
here, however, we take her at her word
that she is entitled to speak up here on
the Plant Your Dream Blog,
a place where we honor all races, creeds,
and colors, as well as interspecies Communication.

FULL DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

In the interest of fairness to all points of view,
I want to say that the Dialogue on Science,
Ethics, and Food does has Beet Keeper
sponsors on all sides of the public
trough. We ever receive support
from invisible forces when that
support is freely given.

OUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE

We call it as we see it here,
We personally favor Yellow locally grown
watermelons from local organic farmers
we love, at the same time, we have been
known here to cavort with the heads of
the Monsanto Company.

MONSANTO COMPANY ALLIES

We have planted beet seeds with
Dr. Robert Fraley toward lessening
the tension between GMO and Organic Lovers.
Keep the Beet and Robert are personal
allies. As she puts it, she wants me
to head up the new Monsanto Company
Organic Division that she says
is going to bring more success to
Monsanto than it ever had with
Biotech Seeds. That, of course,
is the beet's point of view.
I am merely her Chauffeur,

Female Infants Growing Breasts:
Another Disaster From Hormones in Milk Production

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-robbins/female-infants-growing-br_b_676402...

FROM THE ROBBINS ARTICLE

Then what is the source of the hormones? A Chinese dairy association says the hormones could have entered the food chain when farmers reared the cows. "Since a regulation forbidding the use of hormones to cultivate livestock has yet to be drawn up in China," says Wang Dingmian, the former chairman of the dairy association in the southern province of Guangdo, "it would be lying to say nobody uses it." Bovine growth hormones are used in China, as they are in the U.S., to promote greater milk production.

The problem was traced, and found to stem from the misuse of hormones in dairy cows. When Dr. Saenz was asked how she could be certain the babies and children were contaminated with hormones from milk rather than from some other source, she replied simply: "When we take our young patients off... fresh milk, their symptoms usually regress."

MICHAEL R TAYLOR

Michael R. Taylor, Named Deputy Commissioner

for Foods at FDA
POSTED BY BILL MARLER ON JANUARY 13, 2010

THIS IS FROM THE
Marler Blog -
Providing commentary on food poisoning outbreaks & litigation
Bill Marler is a source of information for those interested in Food Safety issues.

He looks forward to the passing of
the Food Safety Modernization Act s-510 that
will put further restrictions on raw milk.

Michael R. Taylor, J.D., was named Deputy Commissioner for Foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, on Jan. 13, 2010. He is the first individual to hold the position, which was created along with a new Office of Foods in August 2009 to elevate the leadership and management of the Foods Program. Mr. Taylor is a nationally recognized food safety expert, having served in numerous high-level positions at FDA and USDA, as a research professor in academia, and on several National Academy of Sciences expert committees. Mr. Taylor returned to FDA in July 2009 as Senior Advisor to the Commissioner.

The FDA and Monsanto: Strange bedfellows

Monsanto was required to submit a scientific report on rBGH to the FDA so the agency could determine the growth hormone's safety. Margaret Miller put the report together, and in 1989 shortly before she submitted the report, Miller left Monsanto to work for the FDA. Guess what her first job was? Strangely enough, to determine whether or not to approve the report she wrote for Monsanto! The bottom line is that Monsanto approved its own report. Miller was assisted by another former Monsanto researcher, Susan Sechen.

But in an article titled "Not Milk: The USDA, Monsanto, and the U.S. Dairy Industry" Ché Green, founder and director of The ARMEDIA Institute, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization focusing on farm animal issues in the United States, writes that, "The results of the study, in fact, were not made available to the public until 1998, when a group of Canadian scientists obtained the full documentation and completed an independent analysis of the results. Among other instances of neglect, the documents showed that the FDA had never even reviewed Monsanto's original studies (on which the approval for Posilac {rBGH} had been based), so in the end the point was moot whether or not the report had contained all of the original data."7

And as though the FDA didn't already exhibit enough audacity it handed Michael Taylor the responsibility to make the decision as to whether or not rBGH-derived milk should be labeled. (At the time, Michael Taylor, who had previously worked as a lawyer for Monsanto, was executive assistant to the Commissioner of the FDA.)

Raw Milk Consumers Win Round One:
Judge Refuses to Dismiss
Challenge to FDA's Interstate Ban on Raw Milk

http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/press/press-FDA-lawsuit-round-one.htm

Falls Church, Virginia (August 20, 2010) - In a complex federal district court ruling, Judge Mark W. Bennett refused to grant a motion by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to dismiss a lawsuit filed against the agency by the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) and eight other named plaintiffs. The lawsuit argues that federal regulations (21 CFR 1240.61 and 21 CFR 131.10) prohibiting raw milk for human consumption in interstate commerce are unconstitutional as applied to FTCLDF’s members and the other plaintiffs named in the suit.

In his August 18 decision, Judge Bennett denied part of FDA’s motion to dismiss while reserving judgment on the remainder. As part of his ruling, the judge ordered proceedings in the case to be stayed sixty days to allow plaintiffs time to decide whether to file a ‘citizen petition’ with FDA. The petition would ask FDA to clarify its interpretation of the authorizing statutes and regulations giving the agency power to ban raw milk for human consumption in interstate commerce. If plaintiffs choose to file the citizen petition, the court would continue to delay the suit until the administrative proceedings were completed or until FDA failed to take action within the time the law requires. If plaintiffs declined to pursue the citizen petition, Judge Bennett indicated the court would reconsider FDA’s motion to dismiss.

In Judge Bennett’s view, the main question FDA needs to answer in the petition process is
