Path of My Life Episode by Karlin .....

I am trying to remove some old stool in my ascending colon from a time when I was constipated years ago.

It happens. People get constipated.

It seems that our modern diet brings it on for some people.

Many medications make it worse. Opiates are famously constipating, it is written right on the label.

Patients receiving morphine prescriptions for years on end can count on constipation occurring.

So it should have been no surprise that I found out that I had some stool in my ascending colon, because I have been prescribed morphine for about 20 years.

An abdominal X-Ray produced the evidence. The good news was that other two sections of my colon were normal, without solid stool until the very end.

The ascending colon is on our right hand side, and normally it only contains a liquid slurry [chyme?] of digested food. Stool should only form at the end, in the descending colon, after enough water is removed [the main job of the large intestine is to remove water, and then expel the waste].

The Doc said the presence of stool in the ascending colon probably came from a time when I was constipated.

If I remember correctly, that would be over 10 years ago. I was having a really terrible time with my teeth, and a condition known as "Trigeminal Neuralgia" back then, and I became constipated. I remember not being able to strain at all because of the terrible shooting pains in my head from the TN and bad teeth.

Something showed up on an X-Ray then too, but the Doctor I was seeing at that time said it was nothing to be concerned about.

I WAS concerned though. I got right on it, changing my diet, taking laxitives, and learning how to do enemas. I was determined to get that old stool out of there and to never let that happen again.

Over the years, I guess I actually forgot about that stool in the ascending colon, perhaps thinking that it had moved along due to my new improved bowel functioning.

I have not been constipated since then, but apparently the old stool never moved. I don't know if it is "caked onto the walls of the colon", or if it is like a log in the middle of the colon.

I will be that my new Doctor will also say it isn't a problem. He won't have any ideas about how to get rid of it, but it is my newly revived mission in life to get rid of it.

I did two enemas so far, but then got that "backlash constipation" on the third day. I understand that it isn't a good idea to do enemas when constipated, just get the BMs happening and then do enemas.

What irony!! - I had not missed a BM in a long time, and then I take laxitives and add a bunch of flaxseed into my diet and THEN I get constipated!! Oh well, roll with the punches I guess.

I am not very hopefull that such an old chunk of tar can be moved out. It could be as old as 35 years, from when I was in hospital for 3 months after a car crashed into me. Perhaps it can be slowly reduced in size though, with enemas containing H2O2. I have never tried H2O2 in an enema. Maybe baking soda enemas will help too [but never H2O2 AND baking soda together!].

And ideas from anyone would be gratefully accepted.
