The Message of the Gulf by YourEnchantedGardener .....

A Gulf is a kind of Gap. The Gap that needs fixing right now is between our ears. We have fallen out of sync with the beat of nature. There are solutions. The solutions that will work need to be earth grounded. Begin with the soil. Begin to grow something, a bit of our food. This can lead to a return to the garden and seeing ourselves as a gardener of the earth. The Gulf: What is its message? We need a moment of awakening that brings us back into community with the earth and other species, to the very soul of existence. Begin healing the Gulf now from the ground up because The Earth and the Soul are Soilmates. Without soil, the Soul has no place to root. With fertile soil, we have earth of our very own to treasure. Living soil is a growing medium, both for our personal growth and for growing a healthy planet.

THE MESSAGE OF THE GULF

ABSTRACT

A Gulf is a kind of Gap.
The Gap that needs fixing right now
is between our ears and between
each of us and our relationship
underfoot with the earth.

We have fallen
out of sync with the beat of nature.
We have become tone deaf from
hearing too much and doing too much.

Solve the problem through
exploring these seven little words:
The Earth and the Soul are Soilmates.
Begin here. The rest will naturally
unfold.

WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF THE GULF?

The message of the Gulf is that we are in deep water.
We have gotten in over our head. We are near drowning
as a species. The sure sign that we are pointed in a direction
other than up is when we no longer value other species.
Right now in the gulf, we are interfering
with their breeding patterns and right to
exist of many species.

There are fish right now in the Gulf who are choking.
Oil, a kind of blood in the veins of the earth, is being
drained out to sustain an unsustainable way of living
that we call the human race.

The racing to get someplace other
than where we are may be over.
It may be time to slow down,
look around, and reinvest in
the Bank of Compost and everything
else that builds up fertile soil.

Today is a day to be more than just human.
We are being asked to be more than just human,
we are being asked to touch the divine in us,
the spark of our soul, the part of us that inherently
knows how to keep the beat with nature.

Emerson, and many other soul inspired humans
have written thoroughly about the relationship
between the soul and nature.

WE ARE IN OVER OUR HEADS

"The spill is the worst in U.S. history — exceeding even the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster — and has dumped between 18 million and 40 million gallons into the Gulf, according to government estimates.
"This scares everybody, the fact that we can't make this well stop flowing, the fact that we haven't succeeded so far," BP PLC Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said Saturday. "Many of the things we're trying have been done on the surface before, but have never been tried at 5,000 feet."

Emerson wrote:

Nature is the opposite of the soul,
answering to it part for part.
One is seal and one is print.
Its beauty is the beauty
of his own mind.
Its laws are the laws of his own mind.

And what is that Root?
Is not that the soul of his soul?
A thought too bold, a dream too wild.

...when he has learned to worship the soul,
and to see that the natural philosophy that now is,
is only the first gropings of its gigantic hand,
he shall look forward to an ever-expanding knowledge
as to a becoming creator...

In essence to repeat the message in
a new way, let me say that the Soul and the Earth
are soilmates.

There is a lot of wisdom here for anyone who wants
to explore these words. The Earth and the Soul are Soilmates
are seven little words that when co-related in a kind
of whole thinking, can bring peace to earth.
When all is said and done, this millennium could be
1000 years of peace when we look back from the year
3001 as we return to living in community with the earth.

We certainly have enough motivation to turn away from
our current actions and activities.

OIL IS PEAKING

For those who may not have been watching or listening
of late, we are basically running out of oil. Oil is the driving force
that allows are system of agriculture, and our mechanical
universe, as we have set it up, to keep moving.

Oil is now peaking. What that means is, there is a
shortage of this natural resource that has been responsible
for our joyride the last 100 years. The joyride has taken us
off the farm. The joyride has taken women out of the home
and taken part of the family as we have known it.

The joyride has created a Gap between rich and poor,
in the quest to beat the system. It has produced
a generation of adults outside with children living
inside them, who never grew up.

The system I am speaking about, is the natural system,
the natural order. That natural order grows from seeds
and has evolved natural technologies that for more than 8000 years
or more have shown us how to live in community with the earth.

Right now, we would like to keep going the way we are headed,
but if we keep headed the way we are going,
we will continue to have wake up calls
as the condition in the Gulf now shows us.

What happened in the Gulf?
We dug too deep. We wanted the oil that was buried
under sea at levels beyond our Technology.

Stop. Listen. We are not masters of the kind of Technology
we are now using. We are beyond our Technology,
but the Technology we are attempting at sea and on land
to grow our food.

Dr. Bernard Jensen, who treated more than 350,000 patients
and took many out to nature so that they might wake up
to the natural order inside them, once said that if we
left human design to humans, we would by our design
have constructed the nose upside down with the nostrils pointing up.
We would have drowned with the first rain.

Our Technology in the Gulf and on land now is based
on similar human designs that are out of order with the
beat of nature.

What is quite obvious from listening to the news is that
we basically were gambling with the future health of our oceans
in attempts to abstract the oil that was no longer easily assessable.

We knew how to dig deep,
but we had no Plan B in case
of human error.

We are missing the Divine point.
Humans, by their natural design, make mistakes.
That is how we learn. It becomes dangerous
when our Technology employs systems that do not
leave us room for error, without hurting ourselves and other
life forms.

We are at the point where everyone is asking for solutions
to get ourselves out of the mess.

In his press conference, May 27, 2010;
President Obama wanted
to make sure that everybody knew that he, rather than a
oil sucking multinational company, was in charge of the
mess that he had allowed. He said he was
responsible, that the buck stopped with him.

He went so far as to place a moratorium on drilling.
He said stop it, but what do we have to be saying
"Go!" too? in other words, what are we suppose to do now?
What are we suppose to be starting, or rather returning to,
as much as stopping?

Basically, there is no technology right now, that will work
as an alternative. Sorry. The only technology that will
truly be safe is the one that has existed here already,
Nature's Original Technology. You can say "Not!" to the rest.
The call is clear. Soil, my friend. We have to build up the soil.

A SURVEY OF ALTERNATIVE TECH
WHAT SHALL WE SAY "YES" TOO?

O.K., so oil is out.
We are saying stop it.
So what are our other choices?
Where do we want to invest?

Here are a few details to consider.

In California, we are in a drought condition.
A few years back, we turned off our water supply
to save a little endangered species near Sacramento called
the Delta Smelt. Do you get the picture?
This little fish was getting swallowed up in our
Technological thinking, in our damn building.
down river, we cut off our local farmers here in San Diego.

Follow my logic.

NUCLEAR?

1. Some would like to go back to Nuclear Power.
BP would like to go Beyond Petroleum, if we leave it to them.
It is clear that BP is not trustworthy. Michael Moore, the
Prophet he is, recently gave us a film called, "Capitalism,
a Love Story." Please the message is clear. BP and all
who have followed that path have slimmed what was
once a middle class.

Nuclear will not work. It leaves no room for human error.
How many Chernobyls and Three Mile Islands to do need?

HARNESS THE POWER OF THE
OCEANS?

2. Some say, there is enough power in the currents of the ocean
to provide all the power that 7 billion people of the earth need.
O.K. follow that out. We build new Technology, involving
a whole shift of thinking, to manage our ocean currents.
How many fish are we going to lose in the process.
Remember the tiny smelt, please.

So, connect the dots. We cannot do ocean flow energy without
endangering more of our other species.

HOW ABOUT WIND POWER?

3. How about Wind? I just heard a great talk on Foodsheds
from Michael D of the Roots for Change organization. Do you
know what happens when you create those large Don Quixote
like wind slicers? Guess what flies into them?

Connect the dots again, dear Technology buffs.
Are we willing to live without bird life and creatures of the air,
or would it be best to simply sacrifice them, and invest in
butcher shops at the base of these bird slicing machines?

BIRD DEATHS AT ALTAMONT

SOLAR?

4. How about Solar? That sounds good.
IF we get get use to living with less, or at best making sure
that every human captures every drop of sunshine.

What is the easiest, most economical, and tried and true
system that can work?

The soil my friend. The soil.

Here are a couple examples that come to mind.

In Pasadena, there is a family sparking a Home Grown Revolution.
They live close to home. They live at home. They are growing
enough food to sell their surplus to restaurants.
Go watch the free trailer on Youtube here, and get together
with friends to watch this short 15 minute inspiring film.

What is the secret of the success of a home grown revolution?

The Durvail family has soil so thick that the land is a number
of feet higher than it was years ago.

Nothing leaves the land. All that grows is composted and mulched.
Do you get the picture?

Each year, the land becomes more and more fertile.
Each year, in spite of having a small space, they can grow
more and more, and higher and higher quality food to sustain
their family and their community.

The land, my friend, that is the essence of where we have
come from, and where we are going.

One of the arguments for inventing and supporting Agricultural
Biotech is that is can feed those who do not have soil in the
first place.

Most of those who no longer have soil have lost their soil
because their cultures and connections to the land have
been destroyed.

There is of course, a key point to living in community
with the earth that is the elephant in the room.
How many people can our earth have without
too many of us fighting for Holy Ground?

The solution--from a natural order point of view:

The earth can support as many people as we have
fertile soil to feed.

Right now, we have too many people.
We have an overpopulation problem because
we are facing a lack of fertile soil.

We can, of course grow more,
each of us. Each of us can grow more.
We can close the gap between the kind of
reinvesting in the kind of Technology that is
literally earth based.

An economic system based on on other than
the ground under our feet, has taken us to the brink.

We can have as many people living in community
with the earth, as there are people willing to live
in community with the earth and all the other species
that make life sustainable

Back to my premise:

A Gulf is a kind of Gap.
The Gap that needs fixing right now
is between our ears. We have fallen
out of sync with the beat of nature.
What we need now is a Moment of Awakening.

There are solutions, and more and more
of them will reveal themselves, as we
get grounded. Without a doubt,
if we want to live here on earth,
the solutions we find, we have already
been here before.

FROM "THE AMERICAN SCHOLAR"
a commencement address given by
Ralph Waldo Emerson at Harvard in
1837.

I. The first in time and the first in importance of the influences upon the mind is that of Nature. Every day, the sun; and, after sunset, Night and her stars. Ever the winds blow; ever the grass grows. Every day, men and women, conversing, beholding and beholden. The scholar is he of all men whom this spectacle most engages. He must settle its value in his mind. What is Nature to him? There is never a beginning, there is never an end, to the inexplicable continuity of this web of God, but always circular power returning into itself. Therein it resembles his own spirit, whose beginning, whose ending, he never can find,—so entire, so boundless. Far, too, as her splendors shine, system on system shooting like rays upward, downward, without centre, without circumference,—in the mass and in the particle, Nature hastens to render account of herself to the mind. Classification begins. To the young mind, everything is individual, stands by itself. By and by it finds how to join two things, and see in them one nature; then three, then three thousand; and so tyrannized over by its own unifying instinct, it goes on tying things together, diminishing anomalies, discovering roots running under ground, whereby contrary and remote things cohere, and flower out from one stem. It presently learns that since the dawn of history there has been a constant accumulation and classifying of facts. But what is classification but the perceiving that these objects are not chaotic, and are not foreign, but have a law which is also a law of the human mind? The astronomer discovers that geometry, a pure abstraction of the human mind, is the measure of planetary motion. The chemist finds proportions and intelligible method throughout matter; and science is nothing but the finding of analogy, identity, in the most remote parts. The ambitious soul sits down before each refractory fact; one after another reduces all strange constitutions, all new powers, to their class and their law, and goes on forever to animate the last fibre of organization, the outskirts of nature, by insight.
Thus to him, to this school-boy under the bending dome of day, is suggested that he and it proceed from one root; one is leaf and one is flower; relation, sympathy, stirring in every vein. And what is that Root? Is not that the soul of his soul? A thought too bold, a dream too wild. Yet when this spiritual light shall have revealed the law of more earthly natures, when he has learned to worship the soul, and to see that the natural philosophy that now is, is only the first gropings of its gigantic hand, he shall look forward to an ever-expanding knowledge as to a becoming creator. He shall see that Nature is the opposite of the soul, answering to it part for part. One is seal and one is print. Its beauty is the beauty of his own mind. Its laws are the laws of his own mind. Nature then becomes to him the measure of his attainments. So much of Nature as he is ignorant of, so much of his own mind does he not yet possess. And, in fine, the ancient precept, “Know thyself,” and the modern precept, “Study Nature,” become at last one maxim.

Obama pledges independence from fossil fuels during California visit

FREMONT — President Barack Obama reaffirmed Wednesday his commitment to containing and cleaning up the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and pledged to wean the country off its dependence on fossil fuels.

"We will not rest until this well is shut, the environment is repaired and the cleanup is complete," he said during a visit to a Fremont solar panel plant that recently expanded using a federal stimulus loan.
