The Codex Alimentarius Commission
is one of the the most influential rule making
bodies in each of our lives.

They make Food Rules.

What they say has influence.

Their Circle of Influence includes the
likes of President Barack Obama
and most world leaders who care anything
about trade.

They are an international and their meetings
looking like a mini- UN.

They need a number of times a year.

Right now, they aim for once and more all
to be determining the fate of GMO labeling.
They would like to be the nail in the coffin
of all the people in the US who have the slightest
inkling of hope in favor of GMO labeling.

While BIO, the Biotechnology Industry Organization
is meeting in....

The CAC is meeting in Quebec, Canada.

For the most part, I would like say they are
a clandestine group in the world.

They have an official office in the USDA,
the United States Department of Agriculture.

The GMO Labeling issue is one their Agenda
this time around.

The US delegation position is that products
containing GMO's should not be labeled.

Here the basic logic behind the Do Not
Label GMO United States of America position.

If their was a GMO label, the people of the US
would start asking too many questions about their
food supply.

They would be concerned that there is something
wrong with GMO's.

The FDA, USDA, Supreme Court, Senate, and US House
of Representative, and the highest paid lobbyists influencing
the White House are Pro GMO.

Let me repeat that--GMO's are the thing,
on the Hill except for a few voices on the HIll
that disconcert them.

Among these voices are the bed partner of
Barack Obama, Mrs. Michelle Obama, who apparently
prefers organic food, and Kathleen Merrigan,
who has has many friends and allies in the
Organic Trade Association (OTA).

The President himself eats a lot of organic food,
maybe by default.

At last year's Organic Center V.I.P banquet
at the Natural Product Expo West, one of the
hot, hot, hot, shouts when to UNFI, the largest
organic food distributor. Their trusts are massively
big. One made a delivery to the White House
kitchen it was announced.

So where do we stand now?

The press for the most part does not cover
the moment by moment workings of the CAC.

The voting they do is said to be by consensus,
but rumors have it, have some Old Style German
leadership. What the head man says, pretty much goes.
Most of the actions take place between the
big meetings.

Right now there are 80 environmental and Food
Groups who have come together for maybe the first
time in history to stand up for GMO labeling.

Where do you stand??

It is time now to opening have this issue
before the public eye.

Activists want GM foods labelled at upcoming Codex meeting

+
The United Nations Codex Alimentarius, the commission on food labelling, referred to around the world as 'Codex,' is meeting in Quebec City from May 3 to 7th.
The Codex is extensive, with 13 volumes that "govern global food quality and safety standards". The Codex is put together by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization, both United Nations bodies. The Codex Commission, which has existed since 1963 has over 170 members, and the main purposes of the Codex Commission are

MORE THAN 80 GROUPS URGE FDA AND USDA TO CHANGE U.S. POSITION ON FOOD LABELING

Position Will Create Problems for American Producers to Label Products GM/GE-Free Upcoming International Codex Meeting to Discuss Food Labeling, May 3
Yonkers, NY—Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports, and more than 80 farmers, public health, environmental, and organic food organizations today sent a letter to Michael R. Taylor, Deputy Commissioner for Food at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and to Kathleen Merrigan, Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), expressing serious concerns that a proposed U.S. position on food labeling would create major problems for American producers who want to label their products as free of genetically modified (GM)/genetically engineered (GE) ingredients. FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION

The EUMS strongly believe that Codex should issue recommendations on the labelling of GM foods. This guidance would in particular be extremely useful for developing countries as was largely expressed during the previous sessions of CCFL and also during the two specific working group meetings which took place in Oslo (February 2007) and Accra (January 2008).
The EUMS are of the opinion that the text elaborated by the Working Group in Ghana is a good starting point to achieve the elaboration of such a guidance document. The objective of this text is to gather in a single document overarching horizontal principles which have to be respected by any country wishing to put in place a legislative framework on GM labelling, while recognising that various approaches are conceivable. It is essential that this text be an official Codex document with appropriate legal relevance in the international context.

Codex moves us nearer all being on the same page for food safety and simplifies global trade in food commodities. If someone can't stomach the advancement of uniform safety standards and fair trade they can always come out swinging with a cockamamie conspiracy theory, I suppose. One wonders what the conspiracy theorists' real agenda is in opposing global progress.
