Now Hear This.
For those who do not get it by now,
I take my marching orders from a talking beet plant.
For some this is woo woo,
a bit unacademic. It is one thing
to talk to plants. Many of us to that.
It's kind of a kiss and no don't tell relationship.
In secret, American gardeners have a love affair
with their rose bushes, if not their cacti.
But--in is another thing when--we admit
we hear plants talking to us.
Cleve Baxter came close to letting the
secret out of the bag in the 80's.
I heard him speak once at IONS
at SDSU. Ions is that Edgar Mitchell group,
you know the astronaut who went to space
and came home some sort of a nutcase.
He was the one who looked at the Earth
from Outer Space. His live was changed forever.
It was around that time historically, that
we started to put a picture of the planet
on a blue flag. Does anyone remember that?
IONS is a respected organization.
Cleve Baster is or was a local.
Steven Wonder had wind of Baxter
and wrote a song or an album
of the same name,
"The Secret Life OF Plants."
Does anybody remember that?
So, back to the point:
I talk to a beet plant.
What is even crazier.
I want you to start to talk to a beet plant.
You will have that opportunity--at the
Beet Keeper table at the upcoming
2010 Cultivating Food Justice Conference
April 24-25, 2010 at San Diego State.
HOW TO GET TO OUR CONFERENCE
Use Parking Lot structure 8,
right off of that first street as you
turn left toward Viehas Arena--
Home of the champion Aztec Basketball Team.
Drive Slow. Look for the signs.
You will find it. The conference sign in
is near there.
So what is this Plant Your Dream all about????
Keep the Beet Media Star
The World's First Talking Beet Plant,
made famous on the Huffington Post
by Paige Donner of Greening Hollywood,
is really wanting to see off duty police officers
coming to our conference.
Keep the Beet Media Star loves the police.
At BIO 2008, she made friends with the Captain
who at that time was in charge of the
downtown area. The police were out in full force.
Protesters were expected for that Biotech Conference.
I went as Press. My favorite Gov, next to Grey Davis
was speaking. Keep the Beet had it all set up
for me to meet him.
The captain became a friend of ours.
I want to see him again.
So, if there are any off duty police officers in San Diego,
The Nation's Finest City--be sure to bring the famiily
out to the 2010 Cultivating Food Justice Conference
at SDSU next weekend.
It is O.K. if you do not wear your uniform.
Just where your Pardes and Charger shirts.
For those who really want the latest--
Come to my Gontainer Gardening Class on
Saturday afternoon.
Keep the Beet Media Star,
The World's First Talking Beet Plant
will be leading that part of the class with
Yael Zeidman. The class is organized by
Julia Dashe, a woman that Keep The Beet
has a crush on, but that is another story.
