MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED NOW
Planning on going to the 20th anniversary of the San Diego Earth Fair on Sunday? Why not volunteer? San Diego Earth Works is still looking for volunteers to help run their Earth Day celebration.
San Diego Earth Fair is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world – and completely volunteer run.
It’s a fun filled day with exhibitors, entertainment, art, food, kids specials and lots of surprises. When you’re there, come by the SDNN booth and say hello. We will be giving away a special Earth Day Prize on Sunday, so come check us out.

Hi all,
This will be the third year for the San Diego Earth Fair to set a goal to
become a Zero Waste Event. We have partnered with the City of San Diego,
Earth Works, EDCO and Urban Corp of San Diego, and we would like you to be a
part of it! Recycling has been available since the beginning of Earth Day
and recently collection of organic materials for composting has been added.
In the past, the organics bins were only placed in the food court area, but
this year we will have the organics bins placed throughout the park. There
remains some mixed material in the trash, comprised of both non-recyclable
and recyclable materials, but most of this material could be recycled.
Our members and volunteers have a very important responsibility. To get to
zero waste we need to make sure that the attendees use the appropriate bin.
Our volunteers will be the guide. We will use this opportunity to teach
attendees how zero waste can eliminate the need for landfills and concepts
such as “waste,” educate attendees about the need for manufacturer redesign
and responsibility, greenhouse gas emission reductions by recycling, and
monetary value of resource management versus landfill reliance. We ask your
assistance to make this worthy goal a reality this Earth Day.
We need more than 100 volunteers to create a successful event.
The event takes place on Sunday, April 19th at the Balboa Park. We ask that
each volunteer commit a minimum of 5 hours. The first shift will take place
from 9:00am to 1:00pm and the second shift will be from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. If
you would like to volunteer for more than 4 hours, we do have lead
volunteers spots open and/or you can pick up double shifts.
Great opportunity for students to pick up community service hours.
The minimum age we are looking for this event is 16 years old, but this can
be negotiable.

application by clicking

I showed up last Saturday morning to ask Carolyn to
be part o the Basics of Urban Homestreading workshop
the weekend following the San Diego Earth Fair.
She agreed to do so. She welcomed me putting flyers
for the event on her volunteer table.
Thank You, Carolyn.
Carolyn is an avid backyard gardener.
One years he came over to the Enchanted Garden
Intentional Community and I visited her home
in PB. She had a lot of lovely plants growing.
Saturday is her time to garden. She will talk
about her love of gardener at the workshop,
one of many being offered as part of
the 2010 Cultivating Food Justice Conference.
Have a ball with Earth Day week events
that start April 18 with the San Diego Earrth Fair.
Be sure to bike or take public transoortation
whenever possible. The event closes at 5 PM.
Then are beander down to the World Beat Center
for the close of the Multi-cultural Earth Day event.
It lasts a few hours later.
I have my 45th HIgh School Reunion up in
LA on Saturday. I will likely come right back down
to enjoy the Balboa Park Festivities.
