Environment California is working to pass a number of measures that cut the pollution and little that puts the ocean at risk.

Products like Styrofoam, plastic bags and cigarette butts, are not only eyesores on our beaches but pose major threats to ocean health.

While we were not able to pass a single-use Styrofoam takeout container ban in 2009, or a measure to provide incentives for reusable grocery bags, progress is being made around the state at the local level.

For example a plastrc bag ban has recently gone into effect in Palo Alto. See the map below for all the regional bans in California:
