I am going to be handing out awards for my
favorite Natural Foods and Supplements.

These are the Natural Products you will
find in our kitchen here
at the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community.
These are also the supplements that I use
very, very often, and recommend.

As a rule of thumb,
If necessary I will take a pharmaceutical,
but I am very cautious of the side effects
through a life of arthritis and the experiencing
the symptoms
that go with most drugs.

Take as an example, Ibuprofen.

On the way up to an International Feng Shui Conference
in 2005 in San Luis Obispo,
I began to feel severe pain in my low back.
My friend Morea was driving.
By late that evening I was in an emergency hospital.
I had kidney stones French's Hospital said, after doing
a full body scan. I drank dye so they could
see better inside my body. It made me gag.

I was given ibuprofen, a more dramatic
form of Advil. The Ibuprofen was a life saver.
I was able to attend the conference with no pain.
I fulfilled my responsibilities.

The pain was so severe that I took the ibuprofen for 18 days.
I was concerned about stopping. One day I stopped.
The pain returned. I continued taking Ibuprofen.
Finally I stopped. There was no pain.

I scheduled an appointment with a kidney specialist.
It turned out he could not see the kidney stones.
Whatever natural remedies I was taking at the time
may have dissolved whatever had showed up
in the initial test at French's Hospital.

The kidney specialist felt that French's had
used the wrong procedure. The dye was unneccessary
in the case of looking for kidney stones, he told me.

As far as the Ibuprofen, I would likely take it again
in an emergency, however, my bowel was so upset
by the drug that I had diarrhea for more than a year.

My current Advil substitute came to me
at the Natural Product Expo West two years ago.
Quite by fate, I received a sample of the product now
known as StayActiv. This formula has homepathic ingredients.
It is approved by the FDA, the agency of the Federal Government
whose primary responsibility is protect us all.

I have to say, I have become somewhat dependent
on StayActiv. I take it whenever I absolutely need
to get through an activity, or attend an event.
