2 Tips for New Raw Foodists - and a Note About Bananas by The Wanted .....
A little tip that helps many people stay raw in the early stages; and a little banana business

This is a tip I am passing on from Aimee. She has a health food store that is online I believe, but sorry, I cannot remember any other details of how to find her (unless you join David Wolfe's pay site "The Best Day Ever" dotcom).
Anyhow, what she said is something I have learned again and again and easily forget about so I think it bears repeating now and again:
If you are new to eating all or mostly all raw, DO NOT GO HUNGRY. Make sure to have plenty of raw foods to eat all the time.
This is especially a good tip for parents who are hoping to transition their children to raw diet. NOT a good time to limit choices of food. Offer a cornucopia and/or lots of whatever you (or the child or whomever) wants to eat unless it is something you know is overboard.
Example of overboard: my son at age 5 or 6 went overboard for frozen bananas that I would put through the Champion blender with the homogenization blank. (It comes out like soft serve ice cream.) He ate SO many bananas that after a month or three he developed a sensitivity or allergy to bananas. Now he is 23 years old and still cannot handle more than about half a banana before it makes the roof of his mouth tickle!
On the other hand, bananas are also not above suspicion as far as being a food that POSSIBLY is not really a good quality raw food. David Jubb, a raw guru from the New York area is positively DOWN on them, David Wolfe finds it hard to say anything good about them, and I believe there was one other raw guru that had a big problem with them (can't remember who it was).
I think it might actually be the KARMA of the people who have been controlling world banana crops for export and import that might be the actual problem. I learned about this by reading one of Jim Hightower's books. I think it was the one called something like "No One is in the Middle of the Road Except Dead Armadillos." Jim used to be one of my neighbors and he is a REAL good guy. In my mind he is a superhero in a nervous mouse's costume.
Anyhow, Jim was telling about this place (can't remember the name) where we used to get at least a big portion of our bananas and some big mega-corporation came in and bullied whomever they had to bully so that ALL the bananas would come from South or Central America instead -- even though the country that was selling the bananas had only ONE other industry -- that of selling HEROIN. And KNOWINGLY, they left that country to have NO OTHER INDUSTRY but heroin trade. For me, that in itself is reason enough to want to just simply boycott bananas. Yanno? Unless I'm in India or someplace where they are grown.
Here's wishing you a SUPER day, from 102°F in Austin, Texas (nearly every day for the past 4 weeks it's been this hot, but I'm not going to complain because I can handle heat better than cold...!!!),
July 16th UPDATE: Another tip for people who want to be able to "go raw" faster, this time from David "Avocado" Wolfe: VEGETABLE JUICES.
Avocado points out by the way that as a person moves from eating meating to eating vegetarian or vegan the sugar balance is difference. Whereas a meat-eater may be able to handle a lot of carrot juice and it works great for him or her, as that person eats less meat the sugars become more powerful to the person and one would do better to use less (or no) carrots in the vegetable juices.
