The A1 vs A2 milk controversy! by chef jem .....

"A2 beta casein is less likely to cause health problems than the usual milk containing the A1"

According to this article
http://www.guide2.co.nz/politics/news/govt-rules-out-further-assessment-of-mi...

the New Zealand government claims "There was no need for a risk assessment," yet a European Food Safety Authority determined that:
"... BCM7 from A1 beta casein could act as an opioid with strong potential to have wide ranging effects on the digestive system.

And the European authority acknowledged there were segments of populations susceptible to the potential effects of BCM7, including babies and adults with certain diseases."

Others are convinced by "Lincoln University professor, Keith Woodford, (who) argued in his 2007 book Devil in the Milk that dairy farms should switch to A2 herds."

One of those who are so convinced wrote:
TO : folks interested in REAL MILK

"I read the book mentioned in the article below. It makes the case that there is a significant link between A1 milk, which is the kind mainly produced by modern dairy herds, and diabetes, autism and several other diseases. A2 milk - produced by Guernseys Dexters, some Jerseys and breeds of Indian cattle - is qualitatively different and does not have those effects.

as usual, those in positions of authority deny the evidence of harm to the Public Health. In a few years, this information will percolate into the consciousness of the public, and we'll see a demand for A2 milk, the same way the organics movement started out as a 'fringe interest' and is now mainstream. That took 25 years. My Guernseys will start producing A2 milk, within the year."

I believe one of my favorite Biodynamic farms in Northern California has Dexters. Another friend who manages a small private cow share now has exclusive A2 breeds.
