In the first seven years of treating his prostate cancer, Tom was not keen on following his doctor's advise. He suspected bad results from radiation on his tumor that had engulfed 70% of his prostate. So instead he chose magnetic therapy. That worked for a couple of years. To this day he still sleeps in a magnetic bed - a negative magnetic field of about 8 inches generated by 70 one-inch magnetic blocks. This protocol was developed by Dr. Philpott, most recently residing in Oklahoma.

Tom's tumor had shrunk and his PSA was stabilized for a few years. He put himself on a detox regiment as recommended by Dr. Sherry Rogers in her book Detox or Die.

He sits in the sauna everyday (far-infrared), takes dozens of healthy supplements, and eats better. All this strengthened his immune system enough to survive seven years longer than his first doctors guessed.

Now with a recurrence of the cancer, he went in for cryosurgery. His PSA went up afterwords, even though the biopsy revealed the prostate was cancer free. So once again with his urologist stating that he would pray for him, Tom was faced with going elsewhere for help.

He found Dr. Berentz in Holland who has developed and patented a new MRI using an iron oxide compound to more accurately detect cancer in the body. This procedure called Combidex is not FDA approved, therefore not in the US. They detected 20 cancerous cells in the lymph nodes and he is now ongoing an aggressive treatment for that. Though once again it is not a traditional chemo/radiation treatment regiment.

This time Dr. Keith Block has prescribed a powerful new diet to strengthen the immune system. His work is integrating holistic treatments to ease the ill effects of chemo and radiation. His techniques can be found in the new book "Life Over Cancer" (Bantam, 2009).

So Tom is once again optimistic about extending his life beyond the 72 he has enjoyed so far.
