What is Our Lifestyle Sustaining? by YourEnchantedGardener .....
What goes around comes around. Don't look now, but how we are living now may be helping us sustain cancers, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), and many ailments most of us want to outgrow.... Our immune system is shot. The film ADDICTED TO PLASTIC is highly recommended to get a picture of the mismanagement of what we call waste. Also read Chapter Ten of THE WHEEL OF HEALTH to begin understanding the journey ahead of us to get "Plastic Potty Trained."

What kind of lifestyle are we each sustaining?
Does it include support for local, organic food?
Are we making sure that what we take
from the earth and grows on the earth,
is given back to the earth in a wholesome way?
Are you living your life as part of a cycle
of Life on a wheel of health?
This is what THE WHEEL OF HEALTH
is all about. THE WHEEL OF HEALTH
was one of DR. BERNARD JENSEN's Favorite books
and inspired him to go to Hunza to study
the laws of health demonstrated by people
who lived in harmony with the earth.
Being part of THE WHEEL OF HEALTH
means living in a cycle that returns good for good.

This chapter contains principles
we need to to mature into
being "Plastic Potty Trained"
Today we do not know what to do with
our waste. We call somethings waste
that need to be returned to the soil.
According to film ADDICTED TO PLASTIC
only 5% of the plastics we use ends up
recycled.

ADDICTED TO PLASTIC
In this point-of-view documentary we examine our dependence on one of the most creative, and alternately toxic man-made substances on the planet, plastic. Addicted to Plastic took three years to film, was shot in 12 countries on five continents and details our 100 year relationship to this highly developed substance. The film poses sophisticated and cutting edge solutions involving recycling, biodegradability and even plastic made from plants. This is a hopeful message about a pollutant that challenges all life on the planet, the sea and land, and the air we breathe.
85 minutes, Directed by IAN CONNACHER.

"ADDICTED TO PLASTIC
was a wake-up call for me as a marine scientist. This film presents the viewers with a grim, realistic look at how the food chain is being affected due to plastic confetti invading nearly every square centimeter on earth. This documentary is a sort of eco-horror movie, detailing how persistent plastics sprinkled throughout the ocean and land carry chemical compounds up the food chain and onto our dinner plates. The word 'bioaccumulation' truly strikes home in a frightening and understandable way after viewing this film. Addicted to Plastic is a sobering must-see and needs to be shown at every educational level globally!" Dr. James M. Cervino, Assistant Professor, Biology and Health Sciences, Pace University, Visiting Scientist, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Department of Marine Chemistry

Sustainablilty Expert ANTHONY ZOLEZZI
and Mr. Green TONY TRACY of
PERF GO GREEN began opening my eyes
to issues with plastic early last December.
The four of us--Anthony, Tony, KEEP The BEET
Media Star, The World's First Talking Beet Plant,
and Your Enchanted Gardener, Leslie all got
together at HOLLYWOOD GOES GREEN,
the two day epic Green Summit put on
by ZAHAVA and MICHAEL STROUD OF
IHOLLYWOOD FORUM.
See the Web Gallery here.
At HOLLYWOOD GOES GREEN
Tony, KEEP The BEET and I decided to partner
up to take on the issue of plastic waste.
Tony was inspired by his daughter
KENDALL TRACY. The two of them were walking
on a beach in Naples, Florida. They watched
a seagull swoop down and mistake a piece of
plastic in the sand for food.
Millions of other forms of animal life are doing
the same around the world. The end result
are many times one less bird, or turtle.
Wildlife can die from eating plastic.
Tony was already making plastics.
The incident on the beach motivated
him to seek out and produce a biodegradable
Trash bag that will not harm. Conventional
plastic can last up to 800 years. The new Perf
Go Green Trash bags biodegrade in two years
or less into biomass. They are available now
at CVS and WALGREENS, online,
and many other stores.
Tony invited me to the PERF GO GREEN EXPO,
an event his company was helping to underwrite
in Los Angeles in January '09. It was there that
I met MARC WOLLMAN of the ECOUSABLE stainless
steel water bottle company. Marc gave me one of the
PERF Go Green water bottles he had made for that show.
Through Marc, I then met JOEY MENDELSOHN, who started
Ecousable.
Marc told me that EcoUsable
was coming out with
a new bottle that has a filtering system that
replaces the need for 100 gallons of plastic bottles.
At the NATURAL PRODUCT EXPO WEST in March,
I met Joey and CARL PALMER,
the inventor of this amazing filtering system.
At that event I drank potting soil from one of the
EcoUsable water filter bottles.
The water came out clean.
So here we are six months later.
KEEP The BEET Media Star has me driving her
around to various events from time to time, more
and more locally. She is a mouthpiece for
Mother Earth and is the Go To Beet for
folks who would not only like to
regain their confidence that they can
grow some of their own food, but also
get back in harmony with the "beet" of life.
One more big piece of the puzzle
is motivated by this house and land where
KEEP The BEET and the members of the
ENCHANTED GARDEN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY live.
We are located within walking distance of
SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY. SDSU has a student
population of more than 35,000.
Many of these young people, the leaders in
the emerging GREEN ECONOMY, would like to
have a safe earth where they can live, thrive, and likely
have families in the years to come.
Our land and home I feel can be a local model
for a land that has natural growth and can be
a place where we can dig in to create community
between us.
For this house and land to be sustainable,
we are being called to be of greater service
to our local community, in particular SDSU.
Each year, SDSU puts out a graduating class.
It would seem only natural, that some of these
students have an opportunity to be exposed
to what a blackberry looks like, or the fact
that here in our neighborhood, it is possible
to grow sugar cane, and some drought tolerant
food plants that we have not yet discovered.
At the SDSU Earth Fair,
KEEP The BEET met one more great ally,
ANTHONY RUSSO. His company EARTHSMART
is producing eatingware made out of sugar cane.
that can help us outgrow styrofoam use/
Most of us today have never tasted a ripe
blackberry or for that matter know how to
live sustainably on the earth. We have never
tasted, touched, or looked closely at
sustainability. Our 1/3 here has plenty
of natural plants and offers a place
to emerse in a natural environment.
IT also shows how much work it takes
to live sustainably on a piece of land!
That brings me to my morning message:
Sustainable is an emerging idea.
It is a key now for economic survival
and "Thrival."
There appears to be a few problems that
we are all being asked to solve right now,
and it is good to look at this problems
here on the PLANT YOUR DREAM BLOG.
Anthony Zolezzi turned me on to
GREEN OPS and GREENOPOLIS.
The idea behind GREENOPS is
educating the people who produce
the plastics we consume be socially responsible
for taking back what they produce.
This is a great idea, and a masterpiece
of thinking from a mind of one
of our planets top sustainability experts.
One of the problems that both
Anthony and Tony Tracy would like
to solve:
Our seas are now inundated with
plastic that is a byproduct of our
throw away way of thinking.
There are mountains and islands of
Plastic at sea.
This would be of little consequence
to you and I perhaps.
Then, I met PETER FONDA.
He was breathing heavy when we
talked at the PERF GO GREEN EXPO.
He was concerned about diatoms
and other single celled life forms in
our ocean that produce
most of the air we breathe.
Let me say that in another way:
The amount of air, and the quality
of air you are breathing now
is being made at sea in the ocean
by single celled life forms.
Those diatoms, that produce
our air supply, according to Peter,
are dying.
Their air supply is being choked
off because most of us are not
plastic potty trained.
[ How do we get Plastic Potty Trained???
I would highly recommend reading
THE WHEEL OF HEALTH by G.T. WRENCH M.D.
We will be looking at sections of the book
this Wednesday that relate to soil depletion
and returning what we use to the Earth.
We will look at the Bank of Compost
as a place to invest our energies
and why sustaining our life
on the Wheel of Health is important.
You can read the book online
or get a copy with updates from Dr. Jensen
in the version he produced called
A HUNZA TRIP WITH DR BERNARD JENSEN.

].
Most of our mothers went
to great efforts to teach us how
to use a toilet, but the truth is,
most of the plastic we use,
95% of it in the USA, ends up
in landfills or dumped in the
ocean.
What we are dumping is killing us.
It is taking away our open spaces.
It is taking away the air we breathe.
Who would have thought things
could get worse!
They just did for me this past weekend.
KEEP The BEET and I have three local organic
farmers in our family.
Once a month we go out and gather with
other local, organic lovers at
LA MILPA ORGANICA FARM for a pizza
and whole food kind of day on the farm.
After my fourth piece of pizza
and a delightful time socializing,
the film that was playing on the
open air after dark video screen
caught my eye.
I made the mistake of watching.
I am not sure my life will ever be
the same.
It was Anthony Zolezzi who alerted
me to the condition of the sea.
It was Tony Tracy who alerted me
to the condition of our lakes and
farmland in third world countries.
Now comes the creators of
a film called ADDICTED TO PLASTIC.
[Back to bed...
5:50 AM...]
I will write part two of this later....
if you want to have your eyes opened
to why we need to get away from
drinking from conventional plastic bottles...
go get a copy of this film.

Filmmaker Ian Connacher conducts an international odyssey revealing the disturbing long-term effects of the most ubiquitous and versatile material ever invented. From water bottles and Styrofoam cups to toothbrushes and garbage bags, in less than a century the pervasive presence of plastics has marked every ecosystem and all aspects of human activity. Visually compelling, entertaining and thought provoking, ADDICTED TO PLASTIC is both a wake-up call and an inspiring consideration of possible recycling or down-cycling solutions.
