RUFINA JUAREZ
of the SOUTH CENTRAL FARMERS
HEALTH and EDUCATION FUND
was the opening presenter
at the CULTIVATING FOOD JUSTICE
CONFERENCE May 1 at San Diego CIty College.
Her inspired talk gave an update
on the South Central Farmers.
They are featured in the new Award Winner
film THE GARDEN. The talks by
RUFINA and LaDONNA REDMOND
were professional recorded
and need to be heard.

FOOD NOT LAWNS,
http://www.sdfoodnotlawns.com/
the local group, pulled together this
very important free event
worth a million to the future
of our city and your grounding
during these times of the
GREAT EARTH CLEANUP.
Cleanup up includes learning
to grow our own food,
sez KEEP The BEET Media Star
The World's First Talking Beet Plant.
Keep the BEET visited her sister
beets at the City College Urban Farm
and was delighted by the progress
of the volunteer driven gardener's
paradise. Be sure to visit
and support the CITY COLLEGE
FARMERS MARKET 9:30 AM-11 AM

LaDONNA REDMOND, turned has her eyes on the baby.
Mom is AMY, who heads tne new Roots Garden at 54th and
Chollas. Amy works for the IRC,
The INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE.

LaDONNA's eyes are also on Chicago 2016, site of the
Olympics. In her talk, she expressed an idea for Chicago
feeding the millions through a local food system in place.
FYI, LaDONNA:
ALL THINGS ORGANIC
the yearly coonference
sponsored by the OTA, the ORGANIC TRADE ASSOCIATION
meets in CHicago each year, and this June.
Go there to get the support of the Organic Industry!

GREEN JOBS? She called for a connected food system where
everyone from the farmer to the dishwasher are paid a sustainable
wage. She defined Food Justice as including what we do
to influence Climate Change, as well as grow food organically.
Her journey toward activism was inspired by her son, who
is allergic to most of the things you will find sold at the corner
store in our areas affected by Food Apartheid. She lives
in an area where she can grow her own corn.
She spoke out against GMO foods, that effect
most of our corn and soybeans today.
For a good source of intregity driven seeds
Please support JULES DERVAIS of
PATH TO FREEDOM. They also have a lovely
fifrteen minute film about their URBAN HOMESTREAD
in the middle of Pasadena that has citified animals
and grows enough food to sell to local chefs.
GO to PATH TO FREEDOM.

LaDONNA spoke and then left for two other food policy
conferences. There are articles about her all over the web.

Went to the after party at The Hive
across the street for San Diego City College,
a delightful location.

TIM MANLEY, The Sushi chef, spent the day
making food from the organic garden across the street that
JULIA and PAUL are inspiring.
Met a number of the gardeners who garden
every week here.

Very good attendance tonight
at the conference.

The garden at City College was right there
where I parked the EG Mobile.

Bravo to the garden and gardeners.

Very open, trusting space, this garden
that features a Farmers' Market each
Tuesday and welcomes volunteers
to cultivate themselves here.
Looked at the garden on my way out:
Let all who are hungry come and eat
was the feeling I had.

Vibe at the after Party:

Something is brewing here.
Reminds me of the garden of
ALAN CHADWICK
at UC Santa Cruz in the 60's.
That garden and its activity
set the stage for a whole
generation of farmers and garden
enthusiasts.

These Doctors of the Soil
will gain their rightful place
predicts KEEP The BEET Media Star
the World's First Talking Beet Plant.
She loved this evening
and had a front row seat listening
to LADONNA REDMOND.

Nice. Nice.
Something is brewing here.
I am planting a seed that great good will
come from the Saturday conference/Convergence
that brings our City together
unifying all who attend is common
purpose and projects.

I am going to starting teaching 7:30 PM-9:30 PM
May 13 the
work of DR BERNARD JENSEN,
who understood the connection between
soil, health, and Self Expression.
Dr. Jensen taught the work of
V.G. ROCINE who identified 20
chemical types of people all
intended to have different balances
of diet supported by different kinds
of foods.

This generation needs the foundation
work of Jensen, who as a youth studied
with the masters of his day. He recovered
from Cancer at the age of 87 through
natural means. His last
book was called COME ALIVE!

LADONNA REDMOND spoke of food Apartheid,
the kind of foods available in the ghetto.
What kind of self expression can come out of that
food????

Tonight was a very moving, tone setting evening
with RUFINA JUAREZ updating on the
South Central Farmers,
and then LaDONNA REDMOND,
who covered all the bases of Food Justice.
Outstanding.

Both these women are major players in
food Policy decisions to be made.

Kudus to the organizers of this
outstanding Conference.

Don't Miss out! Get down there on
Saturday to City College. The day is free.

THE SOUTH CENTRAL FARMERS,
A LOOK BACK:

Last month, a representative from the Los Angeles County Sheriff?s Department placed an eviction notice on the gate of the approximately 14-acre South Central Farm in Los Angeles, presumed to be the largest urban community garden in the United States. While the last thread of their legal case lingers in court, keeping eviction at bay, farmer-organizers and their supporters are engaged in round-the-clock political organizing to save the farm?s 300-plus survival gardens from replacement by a private warehouse.
