At the PRO PENINSULA sponsored
PATAGONIA WILD & SCENIC ENVIRONMENTAL FILM
FESTIVAL, I met members of the Pro Peninsula staff and found out
about their local projects. The project, Adopt a Sea Turtle
hit home. I have been writing in recent weeks about Plastic
Waste and its impact on sea life.

FRANCES KINNEY, Education Coordinator and Administrative
assistant was at the Pro Peninsula table. She was very enthusiastic
about the PERF GO GREEN trash bags. Their Foundation 21.0 aims
to take plastic waste and turn it into new biodegradable plastic
bags that will decompose in two years.

The vision I see would be to do a project where we spend a day
using the Perf go Green bags to do a beach or ocean cleanup
and tie this in with helping our local turtle life.

Turtles have been known to mistake plastic bags at sea
for jellyfish. They are injured from eating plastic.

Perf Go Green was inspired years ago by Tony Tracy's
daughter, Kendal who while walking the beach in Naples,
Florida watched seagulls mistakingly eating plastic from
the sand. They thought it was food.
Tony responded by starting Perf Go Green,
a more sustainable and biodegradable plastic bag.

Perf is currently underwriting EARTH TO GO,
a film that shows the Perf Go Green bags being
used in Africa to clean up waste.

I also met other members of the staff at
the Pro Peninsula Environmental Fair.

I look forward to getting to know this group further.

One of my Seed Dreams would be to inspire local cleanup
of our ocean and contribute to the health of our local San Diego
Sea Turtle population.

I can see this as a local outreach for the Perf Go Green
Foundation 21.0.

There was also a table from the CHULA VISTA Nature Preserve
where two of the sea turtles are on display.
