[video/audio] The Importance of the Community, and a Movie "A Delicate Balance - the Truth" by mouseclick .....
It seems I have some friends who are keen organic gardeners, and I discovered a new movie about health, nutrition and climate.

One other angle on this is the importance of relationships between people. The world only seems to work well when people are honest and truthful with each other. This is the message that Young gets across in his book, and it comes across in the various videos of him as a public speaker. He and Zerzan also imply a non-hierarchical structure.
I was reminded of that "community spirit" last night, when I went to a friend's 50th Birthday. He and I were in our (in)famous diving club, or THE diving club as we like to call it, OUR community, which is spread across the UK, Ireland, Europe and the Middle East. About 1800 people must have passed through it since I joined, and those that stay always remain good friends. I spoke to my friend on his 50th birthday as though it were only yesterday, though I was reminded how long it has been by the height of his 19 year old son who was not even born when we last met.
Myself and four or five others chatted about the times we had, one was drifting for 6 hours on the surface and was picked up by a fishing vessel who alerted the coastguard and called the helicopter search off, the time when I had to manage a rescue involving a high speed boat carrying a suspected bend casualty to "the pot" while I administered oxygen to him and his trainee, the time when the club's van broke down, then also the breakdown van towing it. And of course that person who shall be nameless decided to "dive with god" and got bent in Scapa Flow. But there was praise for him too, for organising the trip so well.
We discussed how the club had evolved through the years, when it started we were all crazy then people started having kids so we then had to operate crèches on dives so the mums and dads could dive, and later we then taught the kids to dive too. Now they too are adults, and jaunting off to placed around the globe. Soon they too will be having kids.
But what amazed me was that 2 of the 4 guys that were there from The Diving Club were keen organic gardeners. I don't know any organic gardeners, yet I find two on my doorstep as it were. One had been digging his West London plot today and couldn't get the dirt off his hands, the other has a huge plot in Nottingham (yes he travelled several hundred miles to come to the party). And they thought like me too. We discussed how silly it is do go to the gym when you can dig the garden and get food and sunshine as well for free, it's so natural and healthy it is madness not to. I agreed of course. I can't wait to get started, which will be in just over a week. So I emailed them today with links to some of the stuff I have been looking into. Maybe we should turn our diving club into a gardening club. Well, it does evolve.
And although I have been busy I have found something new today. It's another film from down under, I watched it online and have ordered the DVD by air mail. Sadly the online version is pay-per-view and play once only, so I'll wait for the DVD before I really get into it. But the message coming across was the same, same same same same. Food, nutrition, health, the environment, our planet, us as human beings, they are all interlinked, and if we don't do something, we are stuffed. That's why I am doing something.
The video is called "A Delicate Balance - The Truth" by Aaron Scheibner. The DVD can be bought at http://www.adelicatebalance.com.au/
or you can view the movie online for $4.95. I have just bought the ebook for $8, it is in PDF format so you can download instantly and view, print etc with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you don't mind listening to a radio show, you can hear an interview with the directors on podcast and it sums up what the movie is about. Or turn it off if you don't want to hear, they seem to start playing automatically with me!
